I had a phone call supposedly from ebay today to say a purchase of $399.99 for a phone was made. I or my wife did not make this purchase so I tried to ring ebay back and then Paypal. After being on hold for 94 min 38 sec Mike answered to tell me PayPal was not related to ebay. Two different businesses.
How many MILLIONS did ebay pay for PayPal acouple of year back?
So when I asked him to for a suppervissor I was put on hold and hung up after 139 minutes and 59 seconds. Is not it wonderfull how well BOTH EBAY and PAYPAL treat their clients as to treat them like **bleep**. I hope they do listern to the recording BUT the call centre will not care as they get paid for treating people like **bleep** by big corperate companies like these two.

It was about 17 years back. For $1.5Billion. eBay sold Paypal about 5 years ago, for more in all likelihood.
What has that to do with a scammer ringing you? What did your Paypal account say? I assume you checked if there was indeed such a payment before going off like a frog in a sock. It would have taken a lot less than 4 hours.
Oh dear, Scam callers must really have fun with you, have you heard yet that your long lost relative has died in Nigeria and his multi $million estate is all yours, you lucky, lucky Bas...rd
When you received this call 'supposedly from eBay' did you at that time asked the caller any questions relating to the item? When was it bought, the brands name and where is it coming from etc. Also did you asked for the callers name. Not that anyone would understand it. Ask them to spell it out to you plus ask for the caller's phone number. Usually, a foreign accent is the first give away.
Check your PayPal account and note if any debit for the said $399.99 amount had occurred. If not, then you should know this was nothing but the work of a scammer and, in future, you would know how to deal with such call/s. Check your a/c in another 2 days time.
So you got a phone call from a scammer, nothing to do with the real eBay, (who do not even ring people about things that they really have bought from sellers on eBay
The scam is as common as, even people who have never used eBay get similar calls
The real eBay call center has been closed due to Corona virus since early this year, this is the first I have heard of them re-opening now
And yes, the call center is in The Philippines
And no, neither eBay nor PayPal make money from scammers who pretend to be from eBay
A quick Google search of the first phone number or asking other members on the forum here first would have gotten you an answer within seconds
