How to KILL the AU used book sales and cost Aust Post $

I have posted this on the PS forum but as many bookies dont seem to go there I will post here as well

--

I knew they would arrive on the AU eBay site eventuatly.

This company worldofbooks-australia they are part of the UK giant and they are bulk flooding the book section

They state that they are in Wahroonga, New South Wales but thats not correct from the emails I have received from them, they are shipping from the UK and eBay is allowing them to LIE about their stock location. What they have in Australia is a PO box only and all their contact details including phone numbers are all in the UK

Now most of us the used book sellers can compete on price all be it bare bones and near go out the door pricing BUT what costs us $11.20 (standard AP 3KG bag price) to post interstate they are shipping to Australia for $2.99 and AP are delivering it for FREE.

So how much will AP lose this year that they will pass onto us ($22 million last year) if there is any of us bookies left to sell and post on here that is.

So a question for AP, how do we in Australia compete with you delivering these items for FREE and compete with the super low UK postage prices compared to our prices.

Answer is .. we cant.

PS their address in Wahroonga that they claim they are shipping from, is actually to a PO box of a lawyers office

You should know better, rama.

AP don't get to choose how much they charge for delivering overseas mail. I'm told it's based on letter rates. As we don't have a first class letter service, that's 60c. AP apparently tried to register a first class letter rate of $2.60 with the IPU but it was knocked back.

So beef to the IPU; in this instance AP are not at fault. They either charge Australians enough to cover the losses on overseas deliveries or they go broke.

I wonder how the UK sellers would feel if our postage to their country was a fraction of what it cost them to send parcels within the UK?

The poor excuses Aus Post give as to not being profitable if they don't overcharge their Australian customers to make up for the shortfall from their o/seas customers is just lame.

Aus Post have a monopoly within Australia, the sooner that is changed, the sooner we will see the true cost of parcel delivery within Australia.

Don't forget all the listings without images...or FALSE images entirely...

"Please note, the image is for illustrative purposes only, actual book cover, binding and edition may vary"

Why bother putting cover images in any listing if they could be totally false & possibly mislead the customer as to the condition & book they're actually buying???

You might as well put an image of an elephant on the listing.

Great buyer experience!! NOT

Unless you live within a Capital city region, you are at the mercy of Aus Post.

You then have to think even if you live in a region where a competitor opperates, you then have to consider whether thay deliver to the location you need to post to.

Why the head honchos at Aus Post resist the introduction of an $8 1kg satchel is just criminal in their creedy intent to screw Australian online traders and shoppers wishing to support Australian sellers. At the end of the day, the $$$ speak and shoppers go offshore to where their $$$ get the most bang.

Australia Post will always be the enemy until a Co. like Aldi comes along to do what they did to the Coles and Woolworths of the world - keep them honest as Aus Post will continue to price gauge us until they get a wake up call.

The only thing for it would be for everyone to buy stuff from o/seas on mass to send Aus Post cash flow into a downward spiral and let them know we mean business in our fight against their criminal behaviour

They probably ended them because they sold on their other sites - they would have software that kicks in every so often and removes items sold elsewhere!! 😞

I bought a book off WOB and it was in such shoddy condition, ie: pages falling out, fraying edges etc, I wouldn't have minded if that had been in the condition and I had prior knowledge that the book was in crappy condition, it's just the not knowing
