I have posted this on the PS forum but as many bookies dont seem to go there I will post here as well
--
I knew they would arrive on the AU eBay site eventuatly.
This company worldofbooks-australia they are part of the UK giant and they are bulk flooding the book section
They state that they are in Wahroonga, New South Wales but thats not correct from the emails I have received from them, they are shipping from the UK and eBay is allowing them to LIE about their stock location. What they have in Australia is a PO box only and all their contact details including phone numbers are all in the UK
Now most of us the used book sellers can compete on price all be it bare bones and near go out the door pricing BUT what costs us $11.20 (standard AP 3KG bag price) to post interstate they are shipping to Australia for $2.99 and AP are delivering it for FREE.
So how much will AP lose this year that they will pass onto us ($22 million last year) if there is any of us bookies left to sell and post on here that is.
So a question for AP, how do we in Australia compete with you delivering these items for FREE and compete with the super low UK postage prices compared to our prices.
Answer is .. we cant.
PS their address in Wahroonga that they claim they are shipping from, is actually to a PO box of a lawyers office

I bought a book off WOB and it was in such shoddy condition, ie: pages falling out, fraying edges etc, I wouldn't have minded if that had been in the condition and I had prior knowledge that the book was in crappy condition, it's just the not knowing
You could have got that book cheaper, in better condition, in-country. 😉

I found out how to buy stuff on fb in my local area.
Didn't even know it was happening until someone informed me to search my area name in fb with the words buy sell.
Lots of junk mixed with some pearls.

There are lots of those FB groups going across the country and people are offloading their surplus goods and others buying for their collections. A great idea. 🙂

The one in my area is pretty slow, only 11 likes before mine. I've put up a post but I don't expect anything from it.

We have a number of different FB sites originating from our town,(not bad for a town with less the ten thousand people).
The sites are for:
Selling,Swapping,Give away,How to fix.
How to clean,DIY,Up-cycling.
As we are de-cluttering they have come in very handy,:-D
OH sold lots of dust collectors this week,(Elephants).
I've sold a number of items and have bought the odd item,(handy when you know that they are worth a bit more then what they are selling them for),B-)
The way these sites have become better known is to go to other sites and post their site info there via a link,(they generally get the approval from the other sites administrators).

Yesterday WoB ended over 4000 items due to them being 'no longer available' ?:|
How could they spot that amongst 500,000 books and end so many in one day?
I always thought duplicate listings wasnt allowed, yet i have seen several books on my browsing from this seller with exactly the same title
Their feedback says it all, I will stick with the Aussie sellers 🙂

I think I saw amongst their 'red' feedback that one had the first 16 pages missing
Yet, I dont really like listing a book if there is one small name on the first page, but the crappier the condition, the more complaints or lower stars you will get, obviously WOB makes so much money, that don't care at all

You'd have to think even if WOB didn't have the book in stock, they could easily find one in the UK and still post it for a fraction of what we are charged.
If you can't beat em' join em'

It seems most people here are very keen to bag out Aussie Post, but i'd have thought the biggest factor with all the cheap international postage, would be that these companies sign large contracts for cheap mailing. Whether they're from the UK, EU, UK HK, China or wherever, they obviously all get massive discounts through volume. And let face it..if a business is based in the UK and mailing 'cheap or free' shipping to - Australia, US, France or wherever...all 'our' respective mail services have to deal with it. I don't know the 'ins and outs' of International mail protocal. But, i assume - as these mail order companies become bigger & bigger...there will come a day when they'll have to sign contracts with individual country's mail services to handle the increasing volumes.
