Maybe the Green Mile?  Great story but still a few graphic parts (Hard to get away with though)  Lisey's Story is ok too huge book though, lots of reading in that one.

I can only comment as a parent....I would not allow any 12 year old to read Stephen King.

I do not know much about Aspergers but it should not be a reason to allow children to do/read anything that is not appropriate.

I have to agree with lyndal...I have read every Stephen King book ever written and I definitely would not have let my children read them when they were 12.

You are asking for nightmares...at the very least.

Same here plus his books that were turned into movies were all rated M which means mature audiences & usually 15 plus.

I'm just curious as to how anyone, irrespective of age, becomes obsessed with an author that they've never read of book written by or seen a movie of any of their books??

that could be the aspergers bit. They can develop fixations. May have walked past a book and something even just the art work can cause them to become fixated.

I love stephen king and can not think of one that could be regarded as suitable imo.

His autobiographical "On Writing" might be OK, and is a great book to have in the house if anyone in the family is interested in creative writing.(It's also an excellent read.)

I stress the word "might" here, as I haven't read it recently. You'd need to read it yourself first.

OK, I've done some searching. I haven't read it, but it looks like

Cycle of the Werewolf

might also be OK.

Nice short read if you want to check it out first....

I actually do understand where you are coming from OP. A child with Aspergers will often fixate on some particular 'project' for want of a better word. The youngster will want to research and find all there is to know about their chosen 'interest'. While SK is really quite the 'graphic' story teller, maybe encourage him to do some on line research into the author. From memory he also writes a set of novels - The Dark Tower - something like that, and these may be okay, but you would need to read and judge for yourself of course. The other thing with AP is a child is often gifted and well ahead of another of the same age, so may well be okay with some of these novels. Go to the SK website, see what you can find and good luck

My newly turned 13 years old daughter read some of the stories in Stephen King's book of short stories "Just After Sunset" when she was still 12 this year.

She wanted to read a short story "The Cat from Hell" in the book and she read some other ones as well. I've just asked her if it was difficult or too scary and she said "Not really. I didn't read all stories but they were interesting." She is mature for her age and an advanced reader.

My husband is reading Dark Tower series at the moment and he said those are not for my 13 years old. He said she has to wait a few years before read them.
