After a recent ebay survey asked respondents -
"How important is it to you to improve your ranking in search results?"
It then asked sellers,
"How would you feel if you could bid on your Final Value Fees which would improve your ranking in search results?"
It seems that ebay want to charge extra $$$ to get your listings found?

if this is the case and it happens I close up shop

I doubt I ever get anywhere near the top on 'best' match. Non-TRS, no multiples....
Still sell stuff, though. Maybe book buyers search by p+p - lowest, as all smart buyers should.

Well, that's kind of how Google Adwords works.
If its your FVF and not your listing fees, it only costs you $$ when you actually sell something. It depends on what you're selling and how many other copies there are listed. And your profit margin. And a whole lot of other stuff.

Can you imagine complicating the search algorithm more than it is now with Best Match??!! (shudders!!)
The more the complicate the search algorithm, the harder it is for buyers to find items.
Today I searched for an item and no results were found on ebay. Did a google search and guess what? Found CURRENT items on ebay. That is a serious problem for sellers!

It's (was) Friday. Did you have all listings selected?
Betcha if you tried again now it would work.

Unfortunately not all buyers know how to bypass the best match settings and get directed to the larger sellers.
I'm always pissed off when I wish to search for most bids, I end up having to trawl though 10 pages of buy now items???X-(

Rama--search by "number of bids: most" and THEN click on the "auction only" tab. That'll cut out the buy-now items.
Do agree that many buyers don't know how to circumvent best match.

Wow, I didn't realise it was even possible to sort by number of bids! That sure beats sorting by Best Match any day!
Thanks for that tip, Nancy

Thanks for that Nancy.
Has anyone else checked out the tv advert of the book cellar in Tassie?
There's a link in one of the other threads.
Was just given a hard sell by a telemarketer about how I should use hime to get a Google+ page going that is free but he would charge my paypal account $399 for the help he would give me to set it up lol.
The good thing is I checked it out and will update my old Google listing with the + option of pictures and video as well as the usual website link and address contact details.
