Pop-up code promotion freezing my homepage

As of today, a pop-up code has taken over my use of the site in terms of buying; I used a outside search to get to this page.

I can't even get to My Ebay of scroll once the pop-up appears, even after I click close and refresh the screen several times - it just keeps reappearing. What is going on?

Etsy is looking better everyday!

Regards and Appreciation for any help!

Perhaps try the usual "fix" of clearing cache and cookies then reboot your computer. You could also install and adblocker then those pop-ups may well not appear.

I'm using Firefox on Win10 with the inbuilt AdblockPlus, but that can be downloaded for any browser. Also if you're using IE as a browser ditch it and use Firefox, Chrome or Edge.

What sort of pop-up are you seeing?

Sometimes eBay uses a regional pop-up message, but in other cases you may be seeing the result of third-party adware installed on your computer.

Try using an adware scanner to scan your computer.

In some cases, using a different browser may help.

Or try using a different page to reach eBay, such as the site map here:

I have adblocker on FF and have cleared the cache > restarted etc. The adblocker has blocked the ad content but not the actual box that appears. I'm running Ubuntu and don't know how to run a scanner on this OS, so I'll be off to a technition.

Thanks for the replies 🙂

ps I have been a member of ebay since 2004, not 2009!

2009 would be when you first registered for the boards. Hope the tech can sort the problem out for you, let us know the result please.

Sometimes eBay puts up a page with some sort of message "We've changed the selling page" or something similar. There should be a button to dismiss the pop-up, but not all browsers handle it well, and your ad blocker may be interfering with your ability to dismiss the page cleanly.

Try temporarily disabling the ad blocker to see what the message actually is, and if you can dismiss it. Safari and Chrome users seem to have the most trouble with this sort of pop-up; usually Firefox is pretty good at allowing you to dismiss those pop-ups. It might be worth trying another browser to see if you can get around the pop-up.

If you can dismiss the pop-up in one browser, it may be permanently dismissed from your account, so you may be able to go back to your regular browser.

If it is not an eBay pop-up then you may have to try other measures.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm yet to get to the local techie; he seems to be out-of-office a lot. I'm still unable to use any of the main ebay pages without the pop-up appearing, so haven't bothered with it. Initally, I was trying to pause the Green banner; this is when the pop-up appeared. When I clicked on the close X the page froze. I refreshed, had a second of scrolling, then it re-appeared. I have disabled/ enabled the ad blocker; the page i'm on will always freeze. My FF is outdated - several sites have notified me of this.

I just called the tech; he's open all day today, so I'll update this post later with a result.

Thanks again, everyone. 🙂
