Why has my money gone even if the purchase failed?

Hello, everybody! I tried  to pay for a GBP$166 jacket(AUD$320) in Australian Dollar by a credit card from the National Australia Bank. The purchase failed and the system asked me to try again. However, AUD$286 was taken away from my account. I am wondering what happened. May I ask what I should do now? Do I need to wait for a while and see if the money will come back or something? Thank you for your help!

Firstly check your purchase history in eBay.

If the purchase was made through PayPal then log into your PayPal account and check if it went through.

If it was a payment through merchant facilities then check with your bank on monday to ensure you have not forgotten about another purchase made some time ago.

Thank you for giving me some ideas.

When I click the 'Confirm' button, there is a notice says purchase failed because there is something with the transaction and the page refresehed again.There is no record in my purchasing history. I asked the selller if he recieved the money and he said no.

I haven't even got a Paypal account. It says the Paypal can do the excahnge for me.

I am very sure that I didn't purchase anything and the transaction happened excatly after I clicked the confirm button. It is Sunday today. Is it possible that the bank will transfer the money back in three work days?

It is unlikely that your bank will transfer anything back to you automatically.....you will need to be active in getting your money back.

I had a similar thing happen many years ago when a large payment was taken twice.

I rang my bank immediately and was told that paypal had indeed put the same amount on hold twice but if I rang paypal and told them they could fax my bank and tell them it was a mistake and the bank would release the money back to me immediately instead of haing to wait for the transaction to time out without paypal taking it.

I did what I was told and the money was back in my account 35 minutes after it was put on hold, albeit after making several phone calls.  Still, it was bettter than waiting up to 5 days and hoping that all would be OK.

Cool! You are exactly right. It's Monday tomorrow and I will contact the bank. No good sittiing in front of the computer and hoping. I hope I can get it done tomorrow.
