Win7-32 Firefox 76.0.1 I'm unable to log out of eBay. The following page is an 'error' page. And i remain logged in. The only way to kill the eBay stickiness is close the browser then initiate a new one.

Clear all cookies, history and cached data. Then click Sign out and click F5 a couple of times .
That will sign you out.

Trying to bid but it takes me onto the US ebay and asks me to sign in.

We had that earlier too. Using an incognito window on our buying id, we managed to bid on 1 item, then tried to bid on a second, then kicked over to the US site and asked to sign in again, and do a captcha again!
