eBay app crashes my phone

I have a moto g55 android phone. Purchased at the same time, same model as my partner who has not had this issue. When using eBay app for a few minutes the phone crashes and does a blue lined screen, turning unresponsive even to restart. If allowed to time out and locks it resets back to normal. I've also had a strange shadow effect on all graphics and text in the app. Only the app. I thought it was a defective phone but it is only the eBay app that is affected. I've tried the shake to report issue multiple times. Ended up uninstalling for now. Any ideas on why it isn't compatible? Phone is only a few months old, up to date, and undamaged.

Since you have already uninstalled the eBay app, you might try restarting your phone and then installing the latest version of the eBay app once more. The restart in between should ensure a clean install, if the problem was with a previous installation.

I googled your question and it appears your not alone. Some say clear cache for the app others say install an older version and then update. You may need to use the browser version on your phone until a fix is done.

That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially on a new phone. The graphical corruption (the shadows and blue screen) strongly suggests the issue is a compatibility problem between the eBay app and your phone's GPU or graphics drivers, not a defect with your handset itself.

Since a simple reinstall hasn't worked, here are a few more specific steps you could try:

  1. Clear Cache & Data (before reinstalling): Don't just uninstall. Go to your phone's Settings > Apps > eBay > Storage & Cache. Tap "Clear Storage" (or "Clear Data") and "Clear Cache." Then uninstall and restart your phone. This wipes all the app's temporary files for a truly fresh install.

  2. Check for a System Update: Sometimes the fix needs to come from the phone manufacturer. Go to Settings > System > System updates to see if Motorola has released a software update that includes updated graphics drivers.

  3. Report the Exact Model: When you use the "Shake to report" feature, it's helpful if you can include your phone's exact software build number. You can find this in Settings > About phone > Software information. This gives eBay's developers the specific data they need to identify and fix the bug.

It's likely not that your phone isn't compatible, but that a recent update to the app introduced a bug that affects some devices with your specific chipset or Android version. Using the mobile site (www.ebay.com in your browser) is a very good workaround until they release a fix.
