What's changed

It is important that you take the time to read the updated User Agreement in its entirety. What follows is only a summary of the changes.

Changes relating to payments

As we notified you in June 2020, we have changed the way payments are processed on eBay. Specifically, sellers will no longer receive sales proceeds in their PayPal accounts. Instead, all payments for goods and services sold by a seller using the eBay services are facilitated by designated eBay entities (each an “eBay Payment Entity”) pursuant to the Payments Terms of Use. We have updated the User Agreement to remove references to PayPal holding funds related to selling on eBay, as well as to remove any authority previously provided in relation to PayPal taking action on a seller’s PayPal account.

Changes relating to returns

We have changed the way we manage returns on our platform, including by introducing automation to certain parts of the returns process. Specifically, we have added the following information to the Returns and eBay Money Back Guarantee section:

  • What happens when a buyer is responsible for return postage costs
  • When eBay may automate parts of the returns process and the additional authorisation given when an eBay-generated return postage label is provided and used by a buyer.

Other changes

Other sections of the User Agreement have also been updated as a result of recent changes to the eBay marketplace and to provide users with additional clarity on certain requirements including:

  • Using eBay has an additional point about sharing sign-in credentials with third parties and the Multi-user account access program
  • Abusing eBay has additional information around why and when eBay may take action on users’ accounts
  • Fees and services clarifies when we may charge fees and how we may collect owed amounts from existing sellers who have not registered to use the payment services
  • Release clarifies when the release does not apply
  • Breach clarifies when eBay may withhold details of any investigations conducted by eBay
  • Additional terms has been updated regarding policy amendments on eBay.com.au and effective dates

Next steps

Please take the time to read our updated User Agreement.

  • If you accept the updated terms, you don't need to do anything else.
  • If you do not agree with the updated terms, please take steps to close your account. Should you choose to do this, you may wish to remove your listings prior to the updated terms coming into effect. There is information about what happens to your listings following an account closure under the General section of the User Agreement.
