Item listed with buy it now price. Bids have been made but buyer has offered teh buy it now price. Can I cancel auction and accept offer?

I originally lisetd an item with a buy it now price. Bids have been made but buyer has offered the buy it now price. He says I can simply cancel auction and accept his offer. Is this correct and if so, how do I do this?

If Ive listed an item up for auction and someone offers me a price by email, can I agree to sell it to them and close down the auction?

What is the protocol for selling if Ive listed an item for auction. Can I withdraw it and sell it to a particular bidder?
