If you recieve an item that you paid postage for that was damaged do you have to pay to return it to get your money back or the sellers

i had to pay $30 delivery for an item i recieved and it was chiped and broken to get my money back they are saying i have to pay the same amount to return the item so ill be $60 dollars out with nothing and it wasnt my fault
