I have had to refund my buyer as they wanted to cancel the order. I have been charged the fees. How do I go about getting these credited back? Will they automatically be credited back or do I have to make a request?

How did you refund the buyer.
It appears you have sold the same item twice, so I assume the first sale was supposed to be cancelled but was not. If that is the sale you are referring to, as it has not been cancelled, you will not be receiving a refund of ebays fees.

The first sale didn't go through as they didn't make payment. The second I refunded at the request of the client.

Yes, but you should still first cancel, as already said, otherwise eBay "thinks" you sold the item.

Did you cancel the first sale as Unpaid?

In the link I gave you -
We don't issue fee credits in any of the following situations:
If you had cancelled the first sale as unpaid, the fees would automatically be credited.
