I purchased a film camera from a seller, it arrived promptly and seemed to be working fine.
However, because shooting 16mm is fairly expensive and takes some time, I wasn't able to properly test the camera until a few weeks had past. After finally testing it, I found that it worked mostly fine except that the eyepiece was faulty. But by then the returns window had closed.
As per the instructions in the ebay help section, it was suggested I get in touch with the seller directly.
I did this and the seller seemed helpful. He explained what he imagined to be wrong with the eyepiece and that he was happy to replace the camera if I sent it back to him. He also offered to pay for the return postage.
And so I sent it back with tracking.
Once I was notified of its arrival at the destination and that it was signed by the seller, I messaged him to confirm he had received the package. He did not reply. And so I messaged him again a couple days later, and again after. It has been a week now and still no word from the seller.
What options do I have? Please help.

Open a case in Paypal's resolution centre and upload the tracking and possibly screenshots of the emails between you and the seller, you have 180 days from the date of purchase to do that.

I don't believe I paid with paypal unfortunately. I used the card payment option at checkout. Using the card payment option through ebay doesn't go through paypal, does it?

Damnit, I paid with a debit card and not a credit card.
Is there actually no way for me to resolve this via ebay?
Do I just have to hope that the seller eventually responds?

Do you have a Paypal account ? If not then you will probably have paid as a guest through them.
If you don't have a Paypal account I think your only option is to open one and then phone Paypal to get that guest payment transferred to your account, you should then be able to open a dispute with them.

Did you use a Visa Debit Card?
You can do a chargeback on those just like a credit card.
