can someone explain this to me?

bought an item listed with free postage. there were additional postage charges I knew about before purchase though (was in the listing). I request an invoice from seller with additional postage charges on it (4x). now seller says they need my email address to send an invoice? what is going on here? cant the seller just send an invoice with the extra postage so I can pay it with paypal? communication has been poor from seller, and I dont know why they are making this more difficult than it needs to be? am I being unreasonable here?

If there are changes to be made to an invoice after the initial ebay invoice has been made up a lot of sellers will send the amended invoice through paypal, hence the need for your email address.

Ebay now sends messages between members with ammended email addresses, so apparently ebay is the only one that has access to your correct email.  Apparently this is to stop buyers and sellers from communicating direct and selling or adding to invoices off site.  Note this is a new measure implemented by ebay  so no idea how it will affect the forwarding of genuine invoices.
