I just received a phone call from a Sydney number saying there was an amount of $299.00 coming out of my credit card today and if I wanted to stop it I had to press 1 but before I could press 1 the phone disconnected.
Very frustrating and annoying !!!
I looked up the phone number and low and behold, no such number apparently !!!
Obviously a SCAM !!!

Yes it is a very very common scam, posted about hundreds of times on the forum
Nothing to with eBay, it is just one of the companies the scammer's recording pretends to be from
Very very lucky it cut out since you intended to go ahead and press one
You might want to have a look on the forum at what has happened to other people who do so
And the next time you get such a call, do NOT press one

The only button to press is the red one.

They impersonate many companies, not only eBay, to get people's bank details. In many cases they don't even know if the person they are calling has an eBay account, but they try anyway...
In the past people added their phone numbers here Reverse Phone Lookup - Reverse Australia to warn other people, and they still can, but the problem is that apparently they use many different phone numbers and change them all the time...

Spot on
The housemate had one of the calls ages ago
He's never had and eBay account in his life
I've had similar claiming to represent 'The River' and Telstra

Do not answer any number you don't recognise. If it's a genuine call, they will leave a message or text you. Ebay doesn't phone you for any reason whatsoever.
In the last 3 days alone, I have had 8 calls from different unknown numbers and refuse to answer any of them. They display as coming all over the country as well as from overseas. None of them have left a message, so I know they are scams.
My 75 year old mother, on the other hand did answer one last week which claimed to be from her banks fraud department, kept her on the phone for 5 hours on a Friday afternoon and she landed up losing $60,000.
