seller contact after auction ends

Who's responsibility is it to initiate first contact after an auction ends. Should the buyer contact the seller to arrange a time to pick up and pay, or shoiuld the seller contact the buyer to question when he/she would like to come and pick up and pay?

Either way.

Just send the seller a message in eBay asking when it is convenient to pick up and that you will pay cash on pick up.

When you are already in a transaction the eBay system doesn't flag it as a potential off eBay trans.

OK, so I did this after waiting for an invoice that didn't come. It was for a couch on auction with a starting price of $100 with cash on pickup as an option,no postage obviously.I was the only bidder so won it for $100.

The response he offered was  that he  was waiting on another couch to be delivered by the end of the week, or next week, and would i be willing to allow him to hold onto it until he knows when that is, or do i need it asap.

**bleep**,glad I didn't pay with pay pal.Why would someone advertise something with a ending time and want to keep it?

My reasoning is that it didn't sell for as much as he expected. You know, fairs fair, you put something up for sale,it sells,You don't put it back on the buyer then to wait, while you continue to use it,and for who knows how long.I'm not desperate for it but it just doesnt sit right with me.I was hoping to pick it up on Sunday if it was convenient with him,but by the sounds of it could drag on for weeks.

What would others do in this situation?

Just going by the parts I've underlined, it sounds as though they may be happy for you to pick it up Sunday - ask them - it also sounds like you think you've got a bargain, so maybe could you wait for a bit longer ? But don't let the seller string you along for too long.

They're only asking, not demanding.  I'd pick it up as soon as possible so that no damage can be done to it before you get it.  Surely they can live without a couch for a week if they have to.  They can't have it all their way - you could have got rid of yours in anticipation of getting theirs.  I'll bet as soon as their new one arrives they'd expect you to rush over and pick yours up so they don't have it sitting around in the way, and if you don't get there as soon as their new one arrives there's a strong possibility they'll put yours outside in the weather.  I've had people do that when I took 5 days to get there!
