Hi . . . I am a retired 77 YO pensioner trying to use ebay for the first time to purchase a very specific laptop computer to allow me to access some very old Files held on my 2003 LaCie Portable Hard Drive. To do this I require a working laptop running Windows XP. Therefore, I am interested in buying the Compaq Presario M2000 - PC Laptop + Speakers + Cords + Bag - Windows XP – VGC you have for sale . . . via your seller  .  This experience has been a complete and utter shambles from my receipt of the specified goods from your seller being totally ünfit for the application I clearly specified to your seller.  Further I have not been able to contact ebay directly by eMail or telephone to seek your support and lodge with you the documentation I have to hand fully supporting my current position of seeking a "FULL REFUND". subject to my returning the goods in exactly the same condition as I received them . . . Very Poor Service Doug Stephens.

If the item is not as described, you need to go into your purchase history, locate the item and click on the drop down arrow. There should be an option along the lines of item not being as described, or merely having an issue with the item. I haven't bought anything for ages, so can't tell you exactly what the option says.

 

When you find it, click on it and follow the prompts. A dispute will be opened. No need to communicate with the seller. If they want the item back, they have to send you a postage label (it will be electronic, so you'll need to print it out). Any communication with the seller should be via the dispute if it's necessary. Do not fall for the trick of them saying you have to pay the return postage. If they don't provide a label, or funds to cover it, too bad. 

 

If after 4 or 5 days nothing has happened, you should have the option to ask ebay to step in and help. If the seller doesn't refund, ebay will force it and the seller will get a defect on their account. DO NOT close the dispute on the say so of the seller if they say they can't refund while a dispute is open. That is absolute bulldust, but a common tactic. Once a dispute is closed, it can never be reopened, and you won't get a refund. 

 

If you are wanting to retrieve stuff from an old hard drive, go to your local computer geek shop and they should be able to retrieve it for you. 

At some stage you will need to go through eBay's "Money Back Guarantee" to get your money back and the return postage paid for.

If you really want to talk to eBay, you have to start a live chat session. Go to the help page, scroll down to "contact us" and go through all the options until a live chat window appears (during normal business hours).

In order to communicate with the seller, click on their name and from their page/profile click on "contact".

There is no phone number for eBay, the call center has been closed for over two years

 

The email for eBay is a bot automated service and of no use at all

 

eBay help is at the top of each page if you wish to contact eBay

 

However, they will tell you that you need to follow the correct procedures and follow the policies 

 

Leaving a comment under the seller's feedback left for you is not 'communicating with the seller'

 

If the laptop is not as described, you need to open an item not as described dispute

 

If you wish to send a message to the seller you need to use the 'contact seller' in the listing you purchased

 

Age has nothing to do with it, many members here are a similar age and also older

 

Everyone needs to look at the basics of buying so they know what to do if there is an issue

 

Why are you asking the seller for $50?

 

What was their 'error'  ?
