I ordered a head unit in July that the seller promised would work with my car's specific model, however they sent the wrong wiring kit, meaning I can't connect it to my car. I tried contacting the seller for a replacement, however they stopped responding after the return window closed in August. Attempting to file for a return or refund doesn't work, as the item doesn't appear in the Item Picker, and the AI chatbot is completely useless - telling me to file for a return through the item page (which I stated I can't do) or to reach out to the seller (even when I've made it clear they aren't responding). I can't even ask to speak to a real agent, as it just tells me I can't since I haven't ordered anything in the last 90 days. Is there anything I can do here?
OP, why, why, why did you not open the dispute immediately? eBay’s MBG is very clear; it covers you for up to 30 days and not a second longer. There are no circumstances - other than natural disaster or pandemic or something of that sort - under which there would be an extension. The time limit is the time limit.
Unfortunately PayPal won’t cover you either. It used to be the case that PayPal covered Not As Described cases for up to 180 days from the purchase date, but it is no longer the case. The timeframe is now 30 days. (It’s still up to 180 days for Item Not Received.)
You have one chance of being refunded - and one chance only. That is if you funded your purchase from your credit card or debit card. Contact your bank/card issuer immediately and request a chargeback. Provide the information require asap; get the form (which your bank will probably email to you) back to the bank in good time with all of the details.
Let us know how you go. And if you find yourself in a similar situation in future, don’t delay in availing yourself of the protection offered by eBay’s MBG. You’ll be covered if you act within the timeframes outlined in the MBG policy page/help page.
