I received a auspost card in my mailbox saying that an item I ordered was awaiting further payment to collect. So I opened a 'item not received' request. The seller contacted me and he says he will refund me the extra postage if I close the 'item not received'. If I do this, will he be able to refund me?
if you close the case I doubt you will get any refund. Once you close the case it can not be re-opened. Check their feedback as it might be commonplace for the seller.
Tell them "refund first, close case when satisfied "
Once a case is closed on a purchase, it or another case cannot be opened.
Explain you have been advised to receive the full refund first before the case is closed.
This is a tricky one, and not one I have ever encountered myself. It it was me I would find out what the extra postage charge is and ask for the refund first. You cannot be sure he will keep his word otherwise, and as you will not receive it until you pay the extra, closing the case before indicates you have received it when you actually have not. Closing the case prior to getting it could also cause you other problems, like what if it is the wrong item, or something is wrong with it.
Someone with more knowledge on this should be along shortly.
