Paid twice for item

Hi,

So on the 13th of Dec I purchased a item that was pick up only. Hoping to streamline the transaction, I sent money through paypal and all seemed okay. I messaged seller about pickup times and he notified me that his paypal information had not been updated and that he did not have access to the account. From what I recalled, in the past when money reached the account i should be able to refund it but I was misinformed. By the end of the 13th the transaction was complete but the money was not yet debited from my account. Since we had arranged for pickup the next day, I came out with cash (money was still not debited)and paid him and we tried to figure out how to cancel the transaction.  However, by the end of the 14th the money was taken out and was send to his old paypal account. Since he didn't remember his paypal password or have access to that associated email address anymore, I was hoping that something could be done from my end. Apparently, there is not much I can do as a buyer in this circumstance. Seller is nice guy and has said he will investigate tomorrow but I was wondering if there is anything I can do from my side.
