i think this should be longer, since some things i buy need to be made first and then shipped which can take over the 45 days limit. so when something goes wrong there is nothing i can do about it

You can pay with PP using your CC and then you have the possibility to do a chargeback, IF your bank does chargebacks on SNAD.  Most certainly do for not received items.

St George is now charging $10.50 for chargebacks due to extreme increase in people claiming them.Just found this out yesterday by sheer fluke when asking about something else.

I agree.

45 days from payment date to open a case, a further 20 days to escalate to a claim , then seller gets a further 10 days to respond.

75 days before refund.

That's not bad. I usually advocate to open a case, explain to seller it's to not miss deadline and if it arrives after 75 days, one can always repay with PayPal.

About a year ago St George were charging about $15 per claim of misuse of your account and if it is found that there was misuse then you will not get charged the $15 and will get a full refund of any money taken from your account.

I had 4 or 5 claims ($60/$75 charge if not proven) and was told by St George that it was pretty obvious their was misuse by a company that I had purchased from a month earlier.

It was going to take about 6 weeks but it was all solved in less than 3 weeks.

Every chargeback I did through St George was on the understanding that if the seller tried to fight it and they won, then I would pay the $15 fee.   If I was refunded then the fee would be paid by the other party.  In other words....loser pays the bank charge.

Hi ***super_nova*** can you explain a brief 'how to' on this please.

Being the 1st issue I've ever had on ebay, I just got burnt with delay tactics on this.

It was over xmas and 4 delayed 'reasons' later (including going into hospital for cancer treatment) I started to phone them, finally getting a person on the other end who denied any knowledge of the seller [ but I could tell, was clearly caught by suprise as they stumbled to tell me that ]
I feel like I was being too nice and got promised that it was coming, with their intention that a big enough delay would help them avoid me for long enough. They never sent it (I asked for tracking details 5 times!) , but on the 45th day they filled out the sent notification.

Now I don't think there's anything I can do....

Even though they said it had been sent you should still have opened the dispute, I would never wait that long either, I would always file by day 40 at the latest. If it is a custom made item then you can give it another couple of weeks before escalating but if it is just a regular item I escalate asap, all they have to do is provide a VALID tracking number to Paypal.

If they can't then you get your refund approx 10 days later.

It may be worth calling Paypal, depending who you speak to they may agree to open a late claim if you explain very clearly their delaying tactics etc.

If they won't and you funded your claim with a credit or Visa debit card then you can can call your card provider and ask them to do a chargeback. Some CUs and internet only banks do not cover 3rd party payments but all the 'big' banks do.

thanks for that phorum_junkie , I will give PP and the bank a try... $500 is a lot for me to loose over a learning curve. The 45 day limit isn't something I'd known about, and I'm a read-a-holic ๐Ÿ™‚

Is there any way to retrieve a listing once it has been expired (past the 45 day limit) ?

It'd be useful to point to the exact transaction.

& I know they will not be able to provide a tracking number - they avoided that question every email.
