Advice needed on a refund

Heyas.

I was hoping someone could weigh in and offer some advice on this situation.

I ordered a phone off a seller yesterday and paid for it via paypal immediately. I got a message a few hours later from the seller saying that their courier could not deliver to my "remote location" and wanted to do a cancellation. There's a few possible red flags now.

  • My location is only 20km from the state capital and we've never had delivery issues before. We're a significant sized city in our own right.
  • The email from the seller with the "Respond Now' button and "Resolution centre" link return a "Site cannot be reached" message.
  • There IS an active case in the resolution center requiring my action. "Seller has sent you a request to cancel this transaction". The option to accept the cancellation says "You should only accept the cancellation request if you haven't paid yet or you've already received your refund from the seller." I have paid as far as I can tell. There's a paypal and credit card transaction for it. And I haven't received a refund yet.

Now that I reflect on the transaction, the seller is selling hte phone at a substancially lower price than just about every other seller for the same item. ($277 vs $350+).

Am I overthinking things or is this dodgey?

Edit: Now that I've taken the time to write this, a refund HAS shown up in my paypal account - some hours later. I still think there's too many red flags here.

Re: Advice needed on a refund

You have a refund so I do not have much advice to offer.

That being said ... whenever I make a purchase I look at a seller's feedback & note where they are registered.

I do this PRIOR to buying ... did you also do this?

Re: Advice needed on a refund

Far better buying something like a phone from a seller who can offer a real warranty

You may just have had a lucky escape
