Brought a top with $4.85 postage. It arrived and has several holes all over it and a few stains. Informed seller and sent pics and was told that they could refund me half the price of the top and I could sew the holes up myself. I told them I was unhappy with this and requested all money spent returned. They have now offered me a refund not including postage. Considering the postage is actually worth more then the item cost should I be expecting to get it back? or is it unreasonable to expect it back?

If the seller is refusing to refund the total paid then open a dispute via ebay for item not as described.
Follow the dispute process and the seller will have to refund you the total you paid including the postage and if it is returned then the return postage as well.
Add ALL photos to back up your reason for the dispute.

Cut your loss and leave them negative feedback. "seller offered half refund and told me to sew up holes"
Why would others want to deal with a seller like this?

Why cut losses and leave feedback when you can get your mony back, cost the seller money and a defect point and leave feedback?

Because life is too short.
