Australia Post tracking question aout a seller

G'day..
Anyone know if the OZ Post tracking number provided by sellers is recycled for future purchases?
I brought an item from an Oz Seller, given a tracking number by seller and when visiting the Oz Post to check status of my purchased item, said the item was sent and actually received by someone in another state to where I live.
The seller has responded to my concern by stating that OZ Post are slow to update there tracking details...that led me to assume that sellers are able to recycle tracking numbers.
I have not heard this one before and thought I should ask here for any experience from other buyers.
I was under the impression new tracking numbers are generated automatically by Oz Post and if that is the case, the seller may have sent my item to the wrong address.
I have not changed any details of my address and my PayPal address matches where I live. I have never lived in Mexico (Victoria is where the tracked item was received) and nothing quirky my end as far as that goes.
Your thoughts will be gratefully answered and cheers.

Never heard of a recycled number. I would think it not possible because once a number is scanned, its in the system allocated to that item/address.

Methinks the seller has either confused you with someone else, made an error or is stringing you along.

Watch your time frame re paypal dispute just in case.

Sounds a bit fishy to me, especially as the tracking info is still available online, which only happens for a very short amount of time and I would be very surprised, if tracking numbers are recycled at all, whether it would happen in less than a couple of months from when it was last used.

To be honest, I would be a bit suspicious with that response, especially if there's no indication of the seller taking steps to verify that they had actually given you the correct number.

It probably just means it has been 'received' at an AP depot, it does not mean that the item has been 'delivered' to the receiver yet.  You should check the tracking number again tomorrow.

Received generally means received/manifested from the seller. If Click and Send that happens when you pay for the postage. If the seller dropped it in a red box, it may not have been scanned anywhere on the trip.

Does the seller live in Mexico?

When a seller hands over the Click And Send parcel, the tracking shows 'accepted from customer'.

Thats meaning the seller handed it over to the post office.

But certainly should not show the words 'delivered'.

...it's all in the wording. Item is described by Oz Post as being "accepted from the customer" and NOT "delivered".
I did ask the seller the same stuff I asked here, through no fault of his, English must be his second language...reason why I asked here.
Most of my gear purchased off here is from overseas, hence my noobish question.

Thanks people....all the best this year..

Yup -

Manifested = postage label created (paid for)

Accepted from customer = lodged over the counter

Delivered = self explanatory

Then there's In transiton board with driver, and awaiting collection, all of which is also self-explanatory. Accepted from customer is generally the one that causes the most confusion, as to buyer's they're the customer, but it means accepted from AP's customer, which is generally the seller....

So, I guess it actually depends on what the status is - thinking more about it, I think the seller probably meant the tracking status is slow to update as often items are delivered and the status will still only show accepted from customer, not that AP are slow to update their tracking numbers when they recycle them.
