Why not!!!!!A seller can cancel an auction if they like and sell to a buyer and I have it done it before. There's no hard and fast rules. Ebay aren't going to stop it. Thats the beauty of Ebay. You sound like you know everything there is to know about Ebay. You are letting off a bit too much steam for my liking. Look at my feedback. To say I'm a troublemaker and then finish it with me being rude is an insult. I think I deserve an apology.
You're a buyer. Buyers can only get positive feedback. Ergo, buyer feedback has nothing to do with the hassles a particular buyer might cause numerous sellers.
Plus, by your own admission, from your own threads, you seem to have a lot of issues with simple purchases.

I admit I'm a troublemaker (but thats only the devil in me.) Not rude whatsoever (look the word up in the dictionary) springyzone is rather "to say the least" arrogant and also plainly ignorant.
Springyzone is ignorant? That's rich, coming from a selfconfessed troublemaker.
Some of the questions that you ask both on the boards and of sellers show you to be rude, arrogant and ignorant too

Hi everyone, the discussion is getting a little heated. Please be sure to keep your communications civil. Thanks!

I wasn't being rude to you, just plainly stating a fact.
No one likes to be told anything negative about themselves & I don't think I am normally as blunt but it's as much a warning as a put down.
If I were a seller with a bid for my two items, I am not sure why you think it would be in my interests to go to all the trouble of cancelling the auction to sell only one at a lesser amount. It would put my back up. It's a bit rude and arrogant to ask at that stage. Naturally most sellers though will be more diplomatic than I have been because of FB etc, but I'm betting most would feel the same.
If the auction had attracted no bids, that is different, perhaps a private message then would work.
There are some rules, actually, although I agree some people don't think they have to stick to them.
One of the expectations is if you bid for an item and win, you will pay without making waves.
I rarely sell on ebay now, it makes no difference to me how you go about your bidding as it is unlikely our paths will cross. But I do think you risk being put on banned lists by some sellers.
