Paymate has a similar buyer protection program to Paypal, so is considered a safe payment method by eBay. The above link explains Paymate's buyer protection. your credit card will also offer you protection through a chargeback if something goes wrong. But you should be able to pay for it through eBay checkout if it is an accepted payment method on the listing.

If it is the Fireman Sam outfit then the seller is not asking you to pay via their website. They have explained that Paymate is fully integrated into the ebay Checkout system.
If you want to pay by a safe payment method you have no choice but to use Paymate as they do not accept paypal.

Report the seller for offering to sell off ebay. Its against the rules i believe. How do ebay get there fees for the sale? Its sellers like that who make ebay change rules that adversely affect all other sellers.
Oops too slow, lyndal got in first.

bsal, I don't believe the seller is asking the OP to trade off ebay if it is the seller I mentioned.
The listing is quite specific that Paymate is fully integrated into the Checkout system so there would be no need for any contact with buyers if they just paid.
The whole process is explained in detail when they point out that they do not used paypal but do use Paymate.

Is it asking to take you from checkout in eBay, to a strange website, or to the Paymate website? It would go to Paymate (if set up right)
