Buying perfume on eBay

Looking for some advice for purchasing perfume on eBay.

The sellers who have the product I want seem to be individuals and none of them have premium status.

Should I be worried? What should I be looking for?

The seller should have a Dangerous Goods Licence if they are going to post perfume and the number should be shown on the listing.

It does not ring alarm bells just because a seller is not a Premium seller so that is not a worry but there may be other parts of the listing that are a worry.

Can you post the item numbers of a couple of the listings so someone can have a look for you.

Lyndal,

Many thanks for your prompt reply. Here is an item number:

282292333569

This posting is typical of many. I couldn't see anything re: dangerous goods.

Usually I'm confident with all purchases, but on eBay I tend to favour Premium sellers, and there's something about perfume (tampering, I suppose) that's making me a little uncomfortable.

Re: Buying perfume on eBay

On the face of it that listing does not ring alarm bells.....but the seller's feedback does.....very loudly.

All the visible negative feedback says the items are fake and if you go further back than the 12 months there are several more negatives for fake perfume.

The problem that I have with going ahead and buying is that it could be a real hassle getting your money back if the perfume is fake.  You will have to get a letter on company letterhead from an authorised 3rd party stating that it is fake and then you have the problem of sending it back....almost impossible without a DGL.

If the perfume was ridiculously cheap I would say immediately that it is too good to be true.  As it is a reasonable price I think I would be taking notice of the feedback and giving the seller's items a miss.

See if you can find what you want from a seller like Chemist Warehouse, either on ebay or directly from their website.  Their prices are good and no fakes.....I only buy my perfumes from them now, mostly by going into the store near us.

Lyndal,

Once again many thanks for the effort. I clearly didn't dig deep enough.

And I'll certainly give your suggestions a go.

Re: Buying perfume on eBay

All premium status means is that they have sold over a certain amount of items over a period of time and managed, sometimes just, to keep their feedback percentage high enough. Some of the worst sellers on ebay have so called premium satus.

Re: Buying perfume on eBay

Premium sellers are TRS and claim to jump through eBay's ridiculous hoops re 'free' postage, postage times, return periods and offering express. It is on an item by item basis.

TRS is pretty easy to get - I have it on 2/3rds of my accounts, but I don't have 'premium' on any of my listings.
