I agree. My thought has always been, that as soon as you tick "Pick up only" the Paypal option for payment should be disabled. I have no idea why people want to pay for pick up items with Paypal, but a lot apparently do. I never would for the reason you mentioned.
And then you have the other problem of someone paying with Paypal, & not coming around to pick the item up until they feel like it, which could be weeks. In that case you can't start a UID on them because they've paid, & if you refund it they can give you a neg which eBay most likely wouldn't take away.

Sorry to burst the bubble, but COD is Cash on Delivery and is an Australia Post service that requires the seller to send the item to the buyer (no cost to seller) and when the buyer collects, they pay the freight.
COD is NOT cash on pick up.
As to pick up only, you can request Cash, but as per eBay protocol, paypal can be used.
As mentioned there is no buyer or seller protection on a pick up item so cash is always preferable, but nfortunately, not mandatory as eBay force paypal (safe payment) method to be available.

I would love ebay to explain to me why they allow sellers to opt for PayPal only for pick up items ?
1.paypal affords the buyer no protection in this situation.
2.and what happens if you do pay with PayPal and when you go to collect the item its not as described, etc.... You ask for money back then the problems start.i can assure you not all sellers are honest.
The way its now allowed to happen the buyer is left hanging and a possibility of losing money.
Love to receive rational comments.
I have contacted ebay several times about this and its like talking to a rock in kigong.
I do agree re paypal but must take issue with your COD suggestion.
This has been a long standing abbreviation for Cash On Delivery.
Too many sellers use it when they should state Cash On Pickup.
Too often buyers are accused of not reading the listing yet sellers continue to offer COD & then don't honour their listing terms. JMO.

Looks like you know how to deal with a seller,by not paying or picking up,claiming sellers don't know how to sell, calling them liers (ps at least spell LIARS properly in your next serial negative) & fools.Seems like the common problem is YOU.

Love replying to rational posts, not so much with some!
As a buyer you have an absolute choice to either pay by Paypal or to pay cash on pick up, if a seller doesn't offer anything but Paypalfor a pick up item don't buy it.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with payment using Paypal if you do it on the spot after having inspected and accepted the goods, you can also pay using a credit card and then do a chargeback if the goods are not handed over or you reject on inspection although you would need photographic evidence it was not as described.
Buyers are in the driving seat where pick up items are concerned and it is sellers who are vulnerable to the above mentioned chargeback if the goods are handed over but there are ways to protect yourself.
