>>COD is extremely unsafe for eBay sales and should be made a totally banned form of payment and the actual term COD stricken from all listings and replaced with "Cash On Pickup" only. <<
Totally agree. i cannot understand why it is even an option on ebay, as most people seem to think it means Cash on Pickup, which it definitely is not.

@falconsportspack wrote:I agree. My thought has always been, that as soon as you tick "Pick up only" the Paypal option for payment should be disabled. I have no idea why people want to pay for pick up items with Paypal, but a lot apparently do. I never would for the reason you mentioned.
And then you have the other problem of someone paying with Paypal, & not coming around to pick the item up until they feel like it, which could be weeks. In that case you can't start a UID on them because they've paid, & if you refund it they can give you a neg which eBay most likely wouldn't take away.
I think you have made some very valid points here.
I offer free pickup on all my items, but I am not happy when someone has paid via Paypal beforehand, for the very reasons you have said.

I really hope you understand why you should NOT be putting COD as a payment option, now you know what it actually means. You CAN choose pick up only if that is what you want to have.

I only put cod because that's how ebay describes it. So no bubble has been burst. Unless you cant understand my point
No, they (eBay) don't describe COD for pick-ups. Why would they?. It means buyer pays cash on delivery ( delivery of the item they purchased to their nearest Post Office - opposite of pick up from sellers residence/business). It is an option for sending a parcel via Australia Post only.
Nothing to do with pick-ups at all.

I know paypal doesn't offer protection if you pay before picking up an item, but I used to recently to do just that. I was going to be in the right part of town when the seller was out. I'd spoken to her on the phone and she sounded okay. Her feedback was good and the item wasn't very expensive. She left it for me in her front garden. Paypal was a great option in this case with a small risk. In most other cases I agree. I don't want anyone to pay me before they pick up an item.

oops meant to say 'I used it recently'

Quite a big risk in my book, if you arrived there you would have no way of knowing if the seller had left it there and somebody else had helped themselves or if the seller had left nothing out.
If the first scenario the seller would have no way of knowing if you were telling the truth so would probably think you had the goods and would not refund. If you were telling porkiesthey believed you and refunded you could be the one ending up with the goods and the money.
Too big a risk when you are relying on the seller, buyer and all passers by beng totally honest.

Yep, I agree generally too risky. But in this case it was something I really wanted as soon as possible so I was willing to take a small risk. Had it gone pear shaped (eg someone took the goods when walking by) then I would have accpeted that. I wasn't too worried about the goods going awol from the front yard. I've had dozens of parcels left in letter box and on porch in the last few years and nothing has ever gone missing. I have to say that's surprised me a bit.
