Can you withdraw a bid on an item?

I have bid on an item that doesn't come to expiry of auction until tomorrow but i need something sooner and have sourced locally. Can I withdraw my bid?

I had exactly the same happen some years ago when I reported a serial bid retractor, they were definitely peeved and tried to bid on oother items but were, of course, blocked.  I always check to see if they are a newbie and  if they are not then a repeat offender. 

There was also a member some time ago who cancelled a few bids on advice from board members as they were scams. She was reported and banned from buying, it took a long time and a concerted effor by the board regulars to get ebay to change the unfair decision. That was in the days when ebay ran the boards and there was no such thing as phone contact.
