I have had 3 parcels come from the USA is the last few months via DAI post.
I was surprised that the sellers had sent delicate pottery in a single small box after they said they would double box.
The first I let slide but the last 2 I contacted sellers who advised item had been double boxed. I sent a picture of packaging and they both stated that it was the inner box with a new label stuck to it.
On inspection the box had no marking or return address from the USA , it just had a sticker with Aus Post and return address as DAI Braeside Victoria. None of the sellers details were on it as they were on the outer box.
the worry is these delicate items require double boxing and DAI are saving money by down sizing the packaging . Contact DAI and you get no response. Not sure how to deal with this as ebay seller advertised US first class post. Think US post are using DAI as a cheaper option to send items to Australia as items show on US post tracking site.
items are eventually delivered by Australia Post

Their reviews could be a lot better than they are.........

I'd be tempted to raise this issue on the US boards.....

Trouble with that is it will just make sellers reluctant to open up their sales to Australian bidders. Sellers dont get the option of using or not using DAI. It is US post that sub contracts out to whoever can ship a quantity of parcels to Australia cheapest.

You have to remember Padi, Product Review is not like it used to be. In the early days, people would gladly leave a review when they tried a new product and loved it. These days, most people who leave reviews are unhappy customers who are out for blood. Therefore, the numbers can be quite skewed.
I'll pluck an example out of thin air. A Dyson vacuum cleaner. 95,000 people bought one this year and 94,500 absolutely loved it. 10 people decided to leave a positive review. The 500 who didn't like it, left a bad one. It then makes it look like the item is really bad, when in actual fact, it's very good.
I still leave a positive review if I buy something new and like it. I don't think it makes a lot of difference. I have also left a few bad reviews when the item really sucked.

My experience with them is a expensive doll damaged...box ripped....doll unwrapped from bubble wrap...then just wrapped in a doll blanket which came with it...they wont do anything about it....my $600 plus doll is now worth $100 if that...Ebay international must use them when items arrive in Australia...Ive never had an issue before....another doll was lost before xmas but eventually found ...box damage but doll okay...I cant chance buying anything from the Us while this company has the contract....

Negotiate an acceptable postage method with the seller.

To be honest, if the package is being opened on transit from the US, this would raise concerns with a range of mail interference laws. However, I would hazard a guess - the eBay user agreement probably permits them to open packages and re-package as needed.
It is simply a reason to avoid buying from eBay unless the seller uses a non-eBay method of shipping (at commensurate higher expense).

DAI Post are so incompetent it is criminal.
March 2025 I was expecting an eBay parcel from US worth over $450.
I checked the tracking Friday 7 March, and was surprised to see it marked as having been delivered three days earlier on the Tuesday. It was also apparently delivered at 7.36pm when there were plenty of people home.
I contacted eBay and the seller, both of whom said I have to take it us with the local courier.
I have lost parcels in the past, and eBay has been very quick at refunding me.
This time was different as the courier had marked the parcel as delivered.
So eBay found that I was not going to receive a refund or my parcel.
It took a bit of work, but I found that the local courier was DAI post.
Friday 14 March I filled out an only enquiry with DAI about the missing parcel.
There is no email acknowledging receipt of the online enquiry, and when i had not heard anything by the Monday afternoon, I emailed my enquiry.
I received two responses from DAI post, telling me that they had successfully delivered my parcel, and send me pictures of the parcel delivered.
BUT the photos were of someone else’s house!
I emailed and phoned DAI, and all that I would get from them was confirmation that the parcel was delivered and that they were closing any request I opened.
So I went back to eBay. Twice more eBay found that I would receive no compensation, as the local courier (yes, DAI post) was saying that the parcel had been delivered.
I tried numerous times to get anyone making these decisions to compare the proof of delivery with google maps of the actual delivery address, but with no success.
Next I called PayPal. They also found I would receive no compensation for my $450+ package, because DAI were saying that it had been delivered.
I spoke to someone from PayPal, explained that the proof of delivery was a completely different house. No good.
Finally, on Thursday 27th March I contacted my credit card company who did offer to reimburse me the $450.
The that evening while out, the parcel was delivered.
I cancelled my refund from my credit card.
Looking at the parcel I can see it has printed on the address label "DELIVERY SIGNITURE REQUIRED".
I contacted DAI post to ask how that parcel was delivered without a signature, and they have not replied.
I have learnt that all the money back guarantees that eBay and PayPal offer are worthless when there is an incompetent local courier, which DAI post is.
My confidence in local couriers is completely destroyed. I have not bought a thing from eBay since this incident
