As a buyer I never bother contacting carriers.
I have the Estimated Delivery Dates & the eBay Money Back Guarantee to protect me should the item not arrive within the expected time frames.

Here you are blaming the carrier, but in your feedback you neg the seller and accuse them of scamming
Which in THIS case you could be right, you bought from a seller in China with poor feedback
Be that as it may, it is poor for, to blame a seller for the failures of the company delivering what you bought
If you bought something that was going to be delivered by Australia Post, and they failed to do their job, would you neg the seller and accuse them of being a scammer?
No seller is responsible for the delivery company not answering your calls etc

Before you buy on ebay, have a look at the postage details for the item as that will often give a clue as to how something is being sent.
But basically, it falls back on the seller.
They have to get something to you by the estimated delivery dates. That is the bottom line.
If something is overdue, you can open a proper ebay claim for item not received. That's what I would do. Don't mess around contacting sellers and courier companies.
That way, it is thrown back on the seller. They have to show tracking & delivery details to ebay.
Let them worry about it, they get a few days to fix things and if they can't, then follow through and finish the ebay claim for a refund.

True, but they do not mention trying to communicate with the seller, only the carrier

Yes, that is odd.
I'd be contacting a seller before a carrier.
I have actually (once) contacted a carrier but it was after contacting the seller and when I found I could easily get on to chat with a human at the company. I wanted to avoid opening an ebay claim for item not received if I could as I could see the seller had posted quickly. I eventually got some action and the item arrived 2 weeks late but had it gone any longer, I would have been opening an ebay claim, for sure.
