Do l open a item not as.....

Hi All, l bought an item on the 7th of Oct. prior to going into hospital on the 22nd Oct, item: 321542029314 when the item finally arrived after being "lost" by the courier co. for a week, l find that there is no hard drive installed, the ltem Specifics DO NOT match those mentioned in the posting, no cd/dvd/rw/drive, the model no. for the Laptop does not match up and the MPN (manufactures part number) do not match up. Display size states 15.4'  but is 12.1'  which is okay with me, l have not got a problem with that issue. l paid through PayPal, as l always do.

Should l open an Item Not As Described or what ?  After emails to Seller, he has gone quiet. Or could be very busy looking for my hard drive, hardly. lol,  Any help appreciated, thanks.

I am hoping the seller has gone quiet for the long weekend, but a Paypal case does wake up a seller. I wouldn't count on them just coming back to this on their own. Attic-case, good luck 🙂

Definitely not as described. Not only does the listing state it has; cd-rw/dvd-rom, a 40gb hard drive, and a fresh Windows 7 install, it even shows pics of it running with Windows on screen.

Given the sellers good feedback history I find it hard to believe they were trying to pull a fast one, particularly over a very cheap lappy. They sell a lot of old comps and comp parts, and have very good feedback (which is not so easy to maintain selling those type of goods unless their descriptions are usually very accurate). So I'd be surprised if there doesn't turn out to be a reasonable explanation for this discrepancy.

It may be possible they took the pics ready to list on eBay a while back and forgot they had canibalized it for parts since, but more likely they had more than one of the same/similar model and accidently sent you the one they had scrapped/used for parts in error.

I agree you should open a dispute with Paypal. But don't be too surprised if the seller gets back to you tomorrow with an explanation something along the lines I suggested above, & if they did send you the wrong lappy in error they may well offer to now send you the correct lappy (at no further cost to you) after having realized their mistake.

Good luck.

Thank you modestbods, along with amber, l have noticed your helpful & wise advice to other boardies in the past. Why l came to the boards was that l did not want to harm or erode my Seller's Good Feedback History, nor my own. With that in mind, l was a bit "lost" where to go on this purchase. As l live in SA, is there a Long Weekend in your side of Aussie ??? (monday)

lf l take your suggestion and open a PayPal Dispute, and the Seller comes to the "party", l can always close it l guees after all parties are happy ??   Yes, l do know once closed, it cannot be re-opened.

Thanks to ALL who have helped me out here, cheers. attic-case. (my oh believes l belong in the attic with the rest of the "old objects".)  Smiley Frustrated

There's no public holidays anywhere in Australia today (Monday), however tomorrow (Tuesday) being Melbourne Cup Day is a ph in Vic and ofc might as well be a ph everywhere else in Aus.

Yes, you can always close the dispute if the seller remedies the situation for you. Just remember, you have 20 days after opening the dispute in which to escalate it to a claim, so if the seller does send the correct lappy that leaves ample time for it to arrive whilst the dispute is still open. Don't close it until you've either; received the correct lappy & it checks out as described, or the seller has refunded you. If for any reason a re-sent lappy hasn't arrived in that time then escalate to claim by day 20, you can always pay again once it arrives.

Message the seller upon opening the dispute, explaining politely that after not having received a reply from them as yet you've opened the paypal dispute simply in order to cover yourself,  & ask if they could please check their remaining stock as they have obviously sent you the wrong lappy by mistake.

Btw, it's reassuring to come across a buyer that isn't too quick to make a snap judgement about a seller, without first considering the sellers past history. Seller's are mere mortals, they make mistakes just like everyone else. So kudos to you attic-case for realizing this & giving the seller the benefit of the doubt. Smiley Wink

I/we time & again keep seeing the two extremes on these boards & via reading buyer/sellers feedback comments; buyers getting into trouble because they ignored a sellers poor fb rating/history and trusted them blindly when they shouldn't have, or buyers jumping to rash conclusions when things don't go their way & labelling sellers with good fb ratings/history as cheats/crooks without bothering to discuss the matter with the seller or consider what legitimate reason/s there might be leading to the issue (or.. ahem... due to unreasonable/unrealistic expectations on the buyers part, like expecting an item to arrive by post 5 minutes after they paid for it).

Sometimes things just don't stack up & looking at your seller, the notion that they've deliberately tried to cheat you just doesn't make any sense., at least not to me it doesn't. There's just nothing for them to gain by it, yet a good deal for them to lose.

In my opinion, the truest test of just how 'good' a seller is, is how they handle a problem when it arises, &/or how they remedy a mistake they've made. Let's hope your seller passes that test.

I have a question for others following this thread, slightly off topic but still related to the OP's purchase.

The listing number is 321542029314, which comes up via a search as you would expect & showing the end date of 7th Oct. Yet, if you look through the sellers completed or sold listings it doesn't show up at all, even though other older listings do. Does anyone here know why it doesn't appear?  I'm just curious about it.

Why the listing is not showing, modestbods, that I do not know.

as for the long weekend, Tues is a public holiday where I am, and a lot of people take the Monday off and make it a long weekend.

the seller may be from outside Vic, but plan a holiday to Vic, for the racing. Quite a few people do that too 🙂

just trying to think of a plausible explanation for why a seller would just go quiet.

As the seller does have a fair reputation, I think it is possible they sent the wrong one.

but to go quiet, bothers me.

also, if they did not check it before posting (if it had been stripped and that forgotten), that is very poor indeed.

Yes, l found the same issue as well, when l went to have a look. Do not know what is causing this ???

l do not believe that my Seller has tried to do anything shonky, it is just that none of the info he put in his sale add matches up.

Confused to say the least.  Thank you folks.
