I purchased a dress advertised as BNWT. The dress arrived and I can see that the tags have been re-attached. The lining of the dress has large yellow stains to both underarm pits, and another large yellow stain to the front of the lining. Clearly the dress has been worn and is not new. I paid $60 + postage for the dress. I do like the dress and I would like to keep it and try to remove the stains myself. But it is not BNWT it is used and so I'd like to know what partial refund amount is reasonable for me to ask for? I was thinking one third of the BNWT price, so $20 refund as the dress is used. Does $20 seem a reasonable amount?

I do not know if the seller deliberately sold me a used dress as BNWT and so out of respect for the seller, I do not wish to publicise the item number as the seller can be identified when looking up the item number.

From your OP - the tags were reattached - there were stains - this has nothing to do with respect for the seller.
Not a thing.

Most of us are not interested in the seller, unless they have a history of issues and poor feedback.
What we would like to see for ourselves is whether the seller has deliberately misled you or not.
If that is the case, you would get more support here, regardless of what type of feedback you have left in the past.
The vast majority of buyers who come to the forums and are asked to supply an item number, do so willingly as we can then guide the buyer as to what the likely outcome will be if they open a dispute and often the best way to go about things to get a resolution.
All that has happened is to make every single person reading this thread just wonder if you did not look at the description and photographs properly before you purchased, even though it was BNWT. It would be a very simple matter to resolve.
As has been pointed out, the seller is well within their rights to request that the item be returned, in which case you will have no choice but to either keep the item at the price you paid, or send it back so that the seller can resell it again.
As an aside, sellers are allowed to deduct money from the return if the item is not in the same condition as when it was sent out originally. So you might find that even if you send back, you don't get a full refund.

Alright then….. so…. What is the item number?
To prove us wrong, to prove to us that you are the victim here, let us have a little looksy at the listing, pics and description.
Go on….. tell us the item number please.
I’ll wait!!!! 😉

Usually when an OP is reluctant to give the item number of an INAD it means they've actually read the whole item description and looked at all the photos pertaining to the product they are unhappy with.
Then guess what..........................

I'm really curious about the reattaching of the tags.
OK - most have a plastic piece going through the ' label ' - in a loop.
Some have a cord attached to the ' label ' - in a loop.
Some have a safety pin attached to the ' label ' - dresses not so much.
How were the tags - reattached.
Simple question.

You told us that there were stains inside the garment that were not listed in the ad and that the garment had definitely been worn. If it had sweat stains under the armpits then I'd say you are right-it had been worn.
My question is this-how could a seller not know or suspect it had been worn if they, as you claim, deliberately reattached the tags? No one usually wears a frock with the tags hanging off it. I'll grant you that the seller may not have noticed the sweat stains but if they reattached tags then they were still trying to mislead the buyer into thinking it was a totally unworn garment and that in itself is shifty. Of course it was deliberate if it happened that way.
I checked out all your feedback. My summation would be that on the whole you give most sellers good feedback. And most sellers return the compliment. You have had a few small glitches. The most recent one where a seller gave a false positive and accused you of scamming because you asked about local pick up I thought was unfair, it's not a crime to ask if pick up is available and if it is, most people wouldn't think they had to pay postage. So I dismissed that as more a reflection on the seller than you.
Your feedback as a seller is appalling though, isn't it. It may have been several years ago & I don't know the circumstances that's true but it's obvious you told people you had posted but hadn't and failed to deliver for a host of others. You should have stopped selling altogether, pulled all your listings and refunded en masse if circumstances got tough or if it ever happens again.
But that's not helping you now. Two (or 20) wrongs don't make a right and if this current seller genuinely misrepresented the item, then you need to make a decision. Either open a case for a return and refund or suck it up and keep the dress. You can always give appropriate feedback.
You could contact the seller politely and show photos of any faults not listed in the ad and they may offer a partial refund but that's not a given and even if they do, the exact amount will be up to them.
I'd say they are pretty much your options. No one here can really tell you an exact partial refund amount as the seller may not want to go that road anyway.

domino-710 in response to your posts,
I suspect that with this dress, and going by the seller's history and items that they sell, that the seller may have acquired this dress from an op shop with the tags "re-attached" and possibly assumed it was BNWT. The stains are on the lining, not the outer fabric, so perhaps the seller didn't turn the dress inside-out to check. The inner section of the clip that secures the loop on the tag is broken off, as happens with this particular tag from this brand when you detach it.
Sometimes, the seller has genuinely made an accidental oversight, as may be the case here. As I stated earlier, I do not know if the seller deliberately sold me a used dress as BNWT and so out of respect for the seller, I do not wish to publicise the item number as the seller can be identified when looking up the item number. I say this is being courteous and respectful.
In any case, this was a simple question of whether or not a partial refund was appropriate when a dress I purchased was sold to me as BNWT though is actually used and with yellow wear stains on the lining.
I paid $60 for the dress plus postage. Similar BNWT dresses from this brand and vintage sell on this platform for around that price. Similar used dresses from this brand and vintage sell on this platform for between $25 and $40. I was thinking a partial refund of $20, brining the price of the dress down to $40, which is at the high end for similar used dresses on this platform.

I think a lot of people have answered your question though.
If the dress was advertised as BNWT and it wasn't, then it was not as described. A partial refund could be in order but that is 100% up to the seller.
And you can't decide the amount of the partial refund. Only the seller can. Whether you accept any partial refund or not is up to you though.
If I were the seller, I'd be wanting to see clear photos of any problems before I would want to offer a buyer a cent.

I have already explained my reasoning for not wishing to provide an item number, and particularly as to how that may identify the seller.
This was a simple question of whether or not a partial refund was appropriate when a dress I purchased was sold to me as BNWT though is actually used and with yellow wear stains on the lining. If you would like to provide a helpful response to my question please continue reading, alternatively there may be other platforms where your rhetoric is better suited.
