I've been communicating with the seller - they sent me a postpack so I could return the item 2 weeks ago, but I still haven't got it, so they are sending me another one. But in the meantime, because it hasn't been marked "sent" by me, Ebay have closed the return, so I guess if the seller was shoddy at all they don't need to refund me now? (no proof that they are! They have a lot of good feedback, and no negs)
What happens in this case? And in case it ever happens again - how do I stop Ebay from closing a return? Or how do I contact them to re-open it once they have? The help system is completely NOT helping me right now =P
Thanks in advance for any help!

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that you can. I'm presuming that the item wasn't as described if the seller was going to provide you with a satchel for the return - if you need to return an item in the future for this kind of reson (and have access to a printer) ask the seller to purchase a label through eBay or Australia Post and send you the PDF so that you can print it out straight away, as even if the seller posts a satchel immediately, there is no guarantee that it will arrive in time for you to post the item back within eBay's timeframe. Alternatively, sign up for PayPal's refunded returns scheme, as that will give you an option to return items but have the cost reimbursed if the seller doesn't provide you with a label or return postage.
What exactly is the seller saying? I'm guessing the satchels were sent untracked, but how long ago was the second one sent?
If you paid with PayPal, and the reason for return was because the item wasn't as described, you can still open a dispute there, so if it gets to a point where you think the seller might be stringing you along, or you just want to ensure you'll be eligible for protection and a refund, you have the option of opening a dispute through PayPal still, however keep in mind that you can't qualify for protection from PayPal unless you send the item back at their instruction (this means that if you send an item back to a seller and the seller doesn't refund, PayPal can't do anything after the fact - the dispute needs to be opened first, and then when returning you need to send the item to the address provided via the PayPal dispute. they will also not require the seller to pay for return postage, or reimburse you, but if you sign up for refunded returns first, you may be able to use that program for the return).
If you're worried about upsetting the seller or anything like that, just explain to them that you're opening the dispute to protect yourself and ensure everything goes smoothly; they may not like it, but most sellers trying to do the right thing will understand.
If it was a change of mind return, though, there's not very much you can do at this stage.

Thanks for that! Yeah reason they were sending me a satchel is 'cos it's really hard for me to get to the postoffice - so we thought this way would be quicker. I don't know if thy have sent a second one yet. I mialed them yesterday to tell them that it still hadn't arrived in the mail delivery that day, so waiting to hear back from them. Time frame Ebay allows doesn't really seem long enough to me - maybe just 'cos I live in the country and it makes everything take longer!
And yeah, shoes they sent weren't the right size. And naturally, 'cos it's the first item I've had trouble with in YONKS, I paid by credit card instead of paypal as I normally would =P

Did the seller send a size different to the listing (e.g sent a size 9 instead of a size ๐ or did they send the correct size and they just don't fit? If they sent the correct size which turned out not to fit you, then it's change of mind and there's not really a lot you can do at this point. You could try selling the shoes yourself.

Did you open an item not as described case ?
Or did you message the buyer and let them know?

I think the return was because of item not as described. =ยญ)

Yes, but did you open an actual item not as described dispute through ebay?
Or did you only message the seller directly and let them know they sent the incorrect size

Sorry, thought I had explained all that - I opened a return, because they sent the wrong size, which I assume is what you mean =ยญ)

Ah ok. I was under the impression that a not as described dispute was a different thing to a return request
In that if something is not as described (wrong size/colour/condition) sent that was a not as described dispute
But if it was a change of mind, that was a return request
