Feature Request - Product Reviews

I feel that when purchasing items from an ebay store that the current feedback process is a bit limited as it focuses on the seller and the sale process.  There have been a number of cases where I have purchased something from a store and the purchase experience has been excellent, fast postage, good packaging, branded and genuine product BUT then I find that the product itself is not so good.

If I had purchased the item through Amazon I could have gone to the site and given a review of the product explaining what it was that I did or did not like about it.  

As ebay doesn't provide a means for buyers to express their feelings towards the product separately to the buying process as a whole I feel there is a tendency for people to give Neutral and Negative feedback towards sellers which is really directed towards the manufacturers.  

Yes, I do however agree there is some degree of overlap, the seller has chosen to stock products from the manufacturer in the first place

There are two separate review options.....you give a Feedback to the seller about the actual transaction and you can give a review about the item as a separate process.

No need to combine them....as you say the seller should not be held responsible for the performance of the item itself as he cannot control that.   The seller should only be rated on the transaction which he can control.

I agree with you.

I think a lot of buyers who get an item they think is shoddy or disappointing use feedback to convey that message.

I realise that somehow, some people do fill out reviews for the actual products but I've never been asked to do that and I've read of some sellers who complain that some of those reviews are linked to their products which are not even the same as those reviewed, just similar.

I think it would be better if ebay, for new products, combined the feedback so the first half was as it is, about the transaction, but the second part asked for a star rating for the actual product and short comment.
