Global Shipping Program Pitney Bowes

so i buy an item on the 28th may from the USA and its shipped via you know who. GSP

ive got a lovely tracking number, says it was uploaded.

but can i find my item anywhere?

nope. nothing since day one.

my delivery dates are 10th to 22nd june.

so i'm waiting.

btw, the item would weigh about 200grams and cost $42 postage! i would never charge a customer that much.

i only agreed as the item is very rare.

bitney bowes is the pits for service, why ebay want their delivery company to be so terrible is anyones guess.

I purchased 2 sealed ultra rare VHS tapes. They were poorly packed and I had issues with delivery plus a threat to send items back to seller etc.  Just a bad set up all round Oh and the double the normal postage cost wasn't that nice either.

Re: Global Shipping Program Pitney Bowes

Use a mail forwarding company (as I've done, and as I've suggested a few times).

You could even get together with several other people who also purchase items from the US and would prefer not to use the GSP, and set up or use one mailing address in the US to which all parcels will be sent. Consolidate the shipment. You'll have perhaps 60 days before incurring costs for storage, so use that time wisely and buy those rare items within a 2-month period. Then have all of the parcels delivered in one shipment. (Mine come by FedEx courier; other forwarding companies may use different couriers.) Everyone involved chips in for the overall shipping cost. Everyone picks up their own parcels from the Australian address to which the items are delivered (or pays for those items to then be redirected to them/sent by the receiving person).

I have never had any issues with items sent to me by either US or the UK parcel forwarding company I use - and some of the items were rare, costly, fragile, delicate, etc. All arrived safely. Overall cost is worth it if you ensure you have quite a few parcels in the shipment.

Great post countess, and another one of the ways to bypass the GSP that was missing in the "GSP perpectives" thread.

I'm sure you won't mind if I cut and paste it to there.   original.gif

Re: Global Shipping Program Pitney Bowes

Thanks countess, regarding the spit-free paccie pass unfortunately my spitty paccie (Misty) passed away at the weekend, and is now in "Paccie Heaven". She'd been a bit wobbly on her pins for a while so I was expecting it, but she had a good innings - about 25 years old.

I was hand-feeding her for a couple of days when she had difficulty standing, then she passed away peacefully on friday night.

RIP Misty.

Oh no... I'm sorry to hear that.

May Misty spit affectionately (or just because she's that kind of paccie) at the pearly gates before making her way inside.

Thanks for the suggestion but that's a lot of organising to do. I just want the convinience of logging into ebay. Seeing an item, buying it or bidding on it and paying via PayPal and having it send to me. I don't want to involve other people as I have tried that in the past.

Anyway, we shouldn't have to do that. That's why I previous made the comparison of GSP with GM Food and Water Fluoridation an give an analogy.. Yes there in some cases are ways to navigate around GSP to save money and headaches, just as there are with GM food and Fluroride to save your health and life, but oh man    .. .. .. .. ..   what a hassle there is to do.

@4channel

you do realise that your "I just want the convinience" statement can be taken to have several meanings.  Here are a few:

- I am too lazy

- it's too hard Smiley Sad

- while I agree with you, if I did that I would have less to whinge about

- I hear you, but that would weaken my argument that the GSP is wrecking eBay for collectors

- if I did that it would weaken my eBay/PayPal buyer protection

Out of these that I came up with (while sitting down earlier this morning for my start of the day 'alone time') only the last would I accept 100%.
