I've been reading a fair bit about the global shipping program lately, after searching for some hard to find items, I finally found some however, they are all located in the USA, the prices for the items them selves are quite reasonable (most around the $25 U.S. Mark 🙂
However the GSP postage rates make the item ridiculously expensive, (one item was $25 and postage to me was just a few dollars shy off $100!!) Now after reading many other people's experiences with the program, and after reading ebays own advice regarding the GSP, my question is: if eBay themselves suggest/admit that items under $50 U.S. Shouldn't be listed using the GSP, why do so many low value items continue to be listed with it as the only option? Shouldn't eBay suggest to the seller some sort of warning?
Maybe something along the lines of "this item is well under our suggested price of $50US, this may result in your listing being viewed by possible international buyers with postage that may well exceed and possibly even quadruple the cost of the original item" maybe eBay could implement GSP on items only above $50 U.S.? I dunno, just a thought.
Ive tried asking sellers if they are willing to ship via a more efficient and cheaper method, and have yet to find one that will agree. If anyone is interested, the item is the first of the old Larami brand super soakers (specifically the super soaker 50, 100 & xp150) these were truely great water guns back in the early 90's, and had a range of 50 feet! Today's water guns don't get anywhere near that range, I just don't see how eBay can justify a lightweight $25 item with postage of close to $100 😞
on a side note, if anyone here in Australia has an old super soaker as mentioned above knocking around, "shoot" me a message 😂

I'd not be surprised to learn that water pistols were classed as weapons by the GSP and not shipped/deemed undeliverable.
After all, you could load one with ammonia or any nerve toxin you had lying around.

Good point. Pitney Bowes don't seem to be exactly gifted with brain cells when it comes to determining what is OK to ship.
As for low value item sellers using the GSP, since eBay opts people in to the GSP I don't imagine they care if the seller only sells cheaper items to suggest they NOT use the GSP.
