Help/advice pls - Aust Post contractor signed for my item & it's missing

We've lost a very expensive item that was delivered from the USA via USPS Express last week. Yet the AP tracking shows that it's been signed for!

Last Sunday we arrived back from an Easter Holiday, and it seems that the AP Contractor had come Tuesday 10th at about 7:38am -  there is a hangup on our home Answering Machine (my home phone number is on the vendor's invoice) at that time. The delivery status says delivered at 7:42am.

I phoned AP customer service and they say there's a scrawled signature with my first name on it. I am unable to get a copy, but I've asked the vendor to request it via USPS. I never sign my name that way, and anyway I can easily verify that I wasn't here on that day. The item should have been carded, not dropped.

Item was paid by Paypal, funded by a ANZ Visa Debit card. Theoretically I cannot claim INR since the item was delivered - and it'd be really unfair to chargeback on the vendor since they certainly did deliver something to us.

AP seemed to be saying "too bad", claim back via the vendor. Yet the only reason it's missing is because the AP employee seems to have either delivered to the wrong address or signed for it themselves and left it sitting on our front porch for nearly a week!

So, how on earth should I handle this? The item cost me almost $1000, so it's not a loss that I can "absorb". I'm wondering if anybody has had similar experiences, especially with making a claim against Australia Post for such a loss.

Thanks heaps for any advice you can give me. 🙂

I know I'm resurrecting this thread but have same/similar problem today.

Long story short, was waiting on 2 international parcels-one registered.

Rang AP who said supposedly signed for & delivered on 8th Nov.AP bloke said this is strange as shows went through Sydney Customs on 8th November but also shows delivered & signed for same day.

Rang Sydeny Customs-no such item went through.

Rang back AP-woman rang local PO & was told delivery van stolen on 8th November in my suburb with 57 parcels onboard-one of which was mine.

I'd like to know why AP didn't contact me & I had to chase this up myself.

My contractor, like many others, scans & signs before delivery to save time & I have Authority to Leave in place but not for International parcels, never been a problem until today.

AP says they usually compensate sender but they MAY offer discretionary refund for mine-had to email through Paypal receipt.

Paypal said they have NFI what to do but they may offer discretionary refund.

This is ridiculous; surely AP has the obligation to inform you if something like that happens, and they have some sort of duty to compensate for item taken while in their care.  :_|

coops just out of interest can the seller tell you if the VALUE of the item was on display on the customs form on the parcel.

This may have been a BIG temptation for the delivering driver to 'sign for it' himself upon realising no one was at the property & no one was around at that time to see him attempting to deliver it.

I would be asking the seller what was on display on the outside of the package.

They said they usually compensate sender but as mine was international registered & I had a minor hissy fit they MAY compensate me instead.

Not going to even bother about other MIA parcel which I'm positive was in that van also as value only $1 plus postage.

As AP had my details because parcel scanned,I'm still majorly possed off that they didn't make any effort to contact me.

Think contractor will be in deep doo doo as he leaves keys in ignition & motor running when he runs up peoples driveways with parcels.

Its the MAY compensate carp by both AP & Paypal that is doing my head in.I've let seller of international registered know whats happened.Glad its 'only' $40 value as who knows if/when I'll see my money again .:|

I don't think there's much point asking coops anything, suitcase. He's been MIA for several months. The issue was eventually resolved, I believe.

Coops turns up now and again, just like the proverbial bad penny and if foxy had started a new thread somebody would have been sure to add a link to this one :^O

Knowing the Fox she will probably end up with $40 from AP, $40 from Paypal and a replacement order from the seller;-)

I worked for oz post.Simple.Go to your local police with your paper work and make a statement/stat dec stating item was stolen and you believe you are a victim of fraud.Police will give you a report number.

Send this to your local delivery manager with a claim for damages. Also state you want all documentation with it for criminal charges. If you have house insurance make a claim for goods left in the open. Most insurance will cover this.Do not tell oz post!!More than one contractor has stolen stuff!!!

You will find them most help full then!!
