I'm a first time bidder. The vendor had put a bid of $7.50 to start. I bid $18. Now I've been told I won with a bid of $7.50. It doesn't make sense and doesn't seem fair to the vendor.
does anyone have an explanation of what happened, please?

Hey slr how long do you have to be a ebay member before you're not classed as a new member?
I'm only asking because the OP has been around since July 2015 and has purchased a few things perhaps with BIN
and has maybe just started to bid on auctions and to me OP isn't new to ebay at all JMO

if a member had been a member for 10 years and bought about 10 items, I would consider them a newbie, if they wished tio be labelled as such. Given eBay's rules will have changed at least once a year....

thanks for the question crow, I'll have a go at answering it because it is on topic (unlike a really stupid question I got from another poster on another thread last week that had no relevence to the thread topic and was only there to stir and criticise).
I guess it shows that I didn't look at the OPs feedback and membership details. I took the "first time bidder" reference as meaning new to bidding. So, in that respect the OP is a newbie, new to bidding as demonstrated by their attitude to winning an item for a low price.
I was dealing with the question they asked in their opening post and the thought of looking at their feedback page never entered my mind, I worked with what was provided, I just wanted to help them understand that they had done nothing wrong.

Yes I agree with your last post and yes OP is an excellent buyer, wish there were more like them.
