How do I find a seller's contact details to return an item for a refund?
Do I wait til a refund has be sent before doing so? The item (a portable dvd player) doesn't actually work and they said they would give me a refund "after they check it"....to see that it doesn't work? They said it worked when they sent it so what are their options? What if they refuse to give me a refund...then I have no product and no money.
Please advise fellow ebayers!!

Ok thankyou! I wasn't sure about the whole "open a dispute" thing but its obviously the best way to proceed. Definately have tracking - I hear you.
Much appreciated ๐

Sooo...dispute opened and I told the seller it was to gain their address (which is true).
She said "ok but you haven't answered my question, do you think this happened it transit?"
This questions was posed after I sent the original email that the goods didn't work. Her insistance on this particular question has me wondering - if I agree that it might have happened in transit (which it might have but who really knows) does this negate her obligation? Can she blame Australia Post and wash her hands of a refund? Tell me to take it up with them?
Just curious as she was very particular about me answering the question (my response has been general and almost evasive on answering the question, just "maybes", "possibilities" and "don't know's").

It is up to the addressee of a parcel to take the goods and all of the packaging to a Post Office to complete the necessary paperwork for a damaged in transit assessment. It can not be sorted out later on if goods are returned.
If a seller sent goods that were in working order when they sent them, packaged very well in accordance with AP guidelines, and arrived and now no longer work according to the addressee, I think its a reasonable question for a seller to ask for your opinion on the possibility they were damaged in transit.
Maybe the seller did not think of that scenario when they recieved your initial message OP, who knows?
If you are being purposefully evasive in not responding to the sellers direct question, then IMO this may contribute to some suspicion at the sellers end about your own motives, it would certainly concern me if a buyer would not answer such a straight forward question.
I understand your need to protect your own interests in this transaction OP, however, the question the seller asked is a reasonable one IMO.

Also, when will Paypal send me the return address?
Thankyou for contributions. The packaging of the item was "ok", but not "great" for an electronic item being shipped across the country
I agree that there is no way for me to know or speculate if it was damaged in transit but I didn't want to sound condecending or rude to the seller. Pleasant and open lines of communication is how I've approached this. I used the term evasive, but probably more cautious and used general terms. At the end of the day, who knows what happened to it. Her guess is as good as mine.
I read so many cases on the forum when people are scammed or end up in a **bleep**py situation through not fault of their own and I don't want to end up one of them - hence I seek the advice of others. Thanking you all ๐
I'll keep you posted....clocks ticking. As it happens I have til 31Dec...last day of the year to resolve of esculate...resolve I hope!!!!
