How do I report a member? I won a bid, seller said it was broken, now has relisted. Liar!

How do I report a buyer, it is really difficult to find the right department on their website.

We won a bid for a coffee table, item 292411972815, the owner said it was damaged beyond repair and couldn't sell it, and has now listed the exact same table Item 292432415175.  We've all sold items and not got the $ we were expecting, this is just dishonest.

Ebay relies on the honesty of its seller and buyers to operate!

My question would be where did it get you?

I have no doubt you're perfectly right & the seller was telling a fib. But you've admitted that your friend won the bidding at $40 & these items really go for about $200.

So you spent money making phone calls to prove a point but you still didn't get the item.

I'll let you into a secret. Recently I put something (well, a couple of somethings) up for sale on another site. New condition with tags, $5 each. Man contacted  me to pick up both. I idly looked on ebay, saw the exact same thing only in used condition, for sale on US ebay for over $200.

I cancelled the sale with a white lie too. I doubt I will ever get $200 or anywhere like it but I decided that $5 was probably a tad underpriced & I suspected if I did keep to the sale it would just end up on ebay next day for maybe $40 or whatever anyway.

Normally as a seller I follow through but if a seller realises they have made a big mistake, they have the right to change their mind & cancel the sale. It's annoying, I know. But it happens sometimes.

Why lie about it? Why not just say you made a mistake?

That's basically what i did, only I didn't say the mistake was with price. I said the items were no longer available.

Sometimes a white lie is more diplomatic & quicker.

Plus (although this didn't apply to my sale as it wasn't through ebay), it is probably less likely to cause confrontation or angst.

For example, if 9on ebay) you say something was damaged or broken, someone might not really believe you but there isn't a great deal they can do but if you say-I didn't get enough so I'm not selling, changed my mind, you can get into the sort of confrontation the seller got here, where the buyer insists they have the right to it etc or feel they are being blackmailed into offering more.

Most people don't like to create bad feeling. I see it as akin to people who get an invite somewhere & say sorry, not able to make it when in fact they could make it but it would sound ruder to say they just don't want to go.

I don't see it matters hugely. People do it different ways but if they withdraw something for sale, then it's pretty unlikely the buyer will get it.

I'm not even saying it is the right thing for a seller to do & if a seller routinely did that on ebay I'd be pretty annoyed but I think any seller can make the occasional mistake with an item.

you knew the seller was making up rubbish - but you thought you'd ring the UK, ring the local council..  and then pat yourself on the back. the purpose of which was to confirm what you already knew was true? wow.

Your remark is somewhat childish  lm-entertainment and I'll explain this on another post and you can read it there if you like..

I did pat myself on the back when I made us a great curry the other night. Man it was tasty!

LOL Digital Ghost,

You said   .. ... ..

"Uhhh.... Nice going, Sherlock?

I hope you also called up every other kind of non-council rubbish removalist in the area as well, just to make sure the seller hadn't hired a skip or something. (Presumably not ncessary if they relisted it, but then you wouldn't have had to call the seller's local council if that had happened).

Secondly, what exactly were you planning on doing with that info? Was the plan to get the seller to do something they clearly were not interested in doing, just with presenting them a surprise "Gotcha" message, or was it for an "I outsmarted you" victory speech.

Morbidly fascinated."

Why would you hope I called every other removal service in the area???? Strange remark.

Actually since we had the address of the seller, it took just one call as I found the local council on line after a minute search. Rung them and got transferred. Call done in 5 mins. Got the info.

Reason for getting the info was to confirm what we suspected. My friend wanted to get the info before reporting to ebay the sellers antics and giving a neg. I also on my friends behalf wanted to appeal to the sellers better nature and try to get him to go through with it, Not by ..........  "presenting them a surprise "Gotcha" message, or was it for an "I outsmarted you" victory speech" as you say. Silly remark anyway. Not to blackmail either. Just to get him to go through with it. Even thought of offering an extra $40 to compensate seller for having his article sold on just a low bid. Nothing more as you try to say.

What is strange about checking out other forms of rubbish removal?   Not everyone puts all their rubbish in the bin collected by the local council.

My OH often takes rubbish to work with him to put in the commrcial skips that are emptied when necessary.

Lyndal, it was simple to know the council picked it up. I made him an offer that he still sell it to my friend at winning price $40 US and I'd help my friend fix it.

I knew it was the council because when he replied, and said .. .. .. "Too late! I threw it in the bin and it was collected by Council pickup on Tuesday (or whatever day he said). No need to ring around when I already had what he told me.

You're missing the point. He didn't spell out that he threw it in HIS bin outside HIS property. If it was a sizable item (most vintage hi-fi stuff was), he may have had to take it elsewhere to a larger bin.

You're also missing the point about the fact that once the seller lied about it he wasn't likely to admit it wasn't broken because he'd lose face. Whatever you offered he was highly unlikely to change his mind because most people WILL NOT admit they lied or made a mistake.

brerrabbit585 , he said he threw it in the bin and it was collected. His bin. The item was no bigger than a VHS recorder. Fit in bin easy if he was telling the truth. he wasn't and it was best to be sure.

Hi 4channel

Sorry for going off topic, could you please look in the BEWARE Global shipping program thread, I have asked a question about damaged items that you may have had experience with.

Many thanks
