So how do I report someone who was obviously using a sniping app/program?
I was bidding on something, went down to the last few minutes, I was the highest bidder then with literally 1 second to go the bids jump to just over my highest, so unless this "person" ( I don't consider them people) has impeccable timing, I call bulls**t.
When ever I bid on stuff as soon as someone goes over my highest bid I get a notice, this never happened, so the only conclusion is them sniping, and any responses I see saying otherwise will be ignored.
So ebay, why do you let scum like this use your service, they should be banned for life for being who can't be content with being like the rest of us and instead make me and others want to do bodily harm to them.
So fix this, it isn't fair on people, I know you don't care, you get your money either way, but come one, you letting "people" do this is why so many people are leaving ebay, or not using the bidding system.

The sniping program I used for years (although not lately as I haven't bought anything at auction for a long time) is free, no matter how many times I used it. Perhaps the rules have changed? Called Gixen. Always worked well for me.
Gixen is still good....and free. I don't bid as much these days but in a recent auction I set a snipe and it was only in the last few seconds that there were two bids. Someone either manually or by snipe set their max only 50c above the opening bid then mine kicked in at 50c higher and I won. The irony is the seller's opening amount was pretty much what the item was worth in ex condition, which is probably why it didn't attract much interest. If the opening amount had been lower it might have brought in more bidders.....and I might have had to pay more to get it.

I reckon if that was implemented it would tend to drive bidders away, for myself it would anyway.
After all eBay's not an auction house where the auction carries on until the item is either sold or passed in, and even there it's not as if they'd turn around and say "we'll hold that back and continue the auction for it later on".
Nope, thumbs down from this little black duck.

Ebay is not really an auction site. It is a sale by tender submission where you have a time frame to submit your best offer. You can reveal or conceal your offer unttil the last minute by choice. Manual submissions mean you can constantly reevalute your offer. If a snipe is set up, then you have picked a maximum and anything you have to pay up to that amount is out of your hands. That is to say for example bid may be sitting at say $50 5 secs before end, if you have set an auto snipe of $100 you may have to pay anything up to that, not just $55 as you have no idea what other hidden maximums have been let or other snipes pending.

Yes lane, I realise all that, my response was ill-worded I fear lol.

Would be great for sellers to have the auction run longer if bids came in the last few minutes. Only the buyers that would complain. But we all know eBay is 99.5% about the buyer so probably never happen.
nope, sellers would also complain. It would encourage nibble bidding and would be a test of buyer endurance rather than having bidders bid their maximum i.e. who can stay interested long enough to place the last nibble bid.
It would take away the opportunity sellers have to decide when their item will end. I used to like to end my auctions at 8pm on a Sunday night. This would let me send an invoice at auction end, pack/wrap the item and have it addressed and ready to go if the buyer paid Sunday night. I could then post on my way to work on Monday morning. Having extensions of time might mean an auction would go on for hours (depending on how long each extension increment was).
There has been anecdotal reports on these boards in the past that on sites where sellers can elect to run extension time auctions that they do not get as high a price as those that fund fixed end auctions, making that option unpopular among sellers.

Never used a sniping program. I have no idea how they work. I'm not really interested to be honest. However, I win majority of the auctions I do by bidding in the last two seconds. Yes, that's right TWO SECONDS. I don't need a program, I have a quick finger. If I want to bid in the last 2 seconds, that;s my choice. It doesn't make me any less a human being. Yes, there are times where my bid doesn't win, but I have bid my maximum I wish to pay for that item. Someone obviously was happier to pay more than me, good luck to them.
I object to being called scum, or less than a person, or the threats of bodily harm, purely because I know how to work the system and you don't. It's hardly my fault I am able to bid in the last 2 seconds on you're not. Maybe you are scum because you are so useless you can't bid at the last second? Maybe you should be banned for life because you are too slow off the mark, while people like myself watch the clock and hit the button at the right moment.
Loser.......literally.

That made me laugh.
I guess because both the opinions are so over the top a la Basil Fawlty. (I know yours was deliberately so).
I must say I am in awe of your trigger fingers or computer skills. I reckon if I tried bidding in the last 2 seconds my computer would take just that moment to decide to go slow. I know comouters aren't supposed to have a will of their own but I suspect mine has and its ornery.
So kudos to you for showing your computer whose boss there.
Sadly, ebay auctions aren't as common as they used to be, most of it seems to be buy it now.

You can't as it's perfectly legal and above board.
I was bidding on something, went down to the last few minutes, I was the highest bidder then with literally 1 second to go the bids jump to just over my highest, so unless this "person" ( I don't consider them people) has impeccable timing, I call bulls**t.
So you got out bid by someone that wanted the item for a higher price then what you wanted to pay,(if you
had placed a higher bid earlier that was the highest bid then you would've won the item).
You had every chance to put in your highest bid and because you didn't you didn't win.
You don't like sniping programs but you're quite willing to swear on a public forum?
When ever I bid on stuff as soon as someone goes over my highest bid I get a notice, this never happened, so the only conclusion is them sniping, and any responses I see saying otherwise will be ignored.
I can manually snipe in the last 3 seconds and you would never get the notice quick enough to say that you
have been out bid.
So ebay, why do you let scum like this use your service, they should be banned for life for being who can't be content with being like the rest of us and instead make me and others want to do bodily harm to them.
eBay let's people use sniping services so that they have the best chance to win auctions by letting them
place their highest bid on an item without having to be at their computer or phone.
This gives sellers a better chance of getting a good price for their items and a higher profit for eBay.
So fix this, it isn't fair on people, I know you don't care, you get your money either way, but come one, you letting "people" do this is why so many people are leaving ebay, or not using the bidding system.
They are not going to "fix" things as it's not broken,(in the past eBay have recommended that people use a
sniping service.
It is fair as everyone is entitled to use a sniping program and place their maximum bid,(which off course
means that a number of times they will win with a lower amount as other don't use a sniping service).
People using a sniping service is not responsible for members leaving eBay,(other factors come into play there).
If you check the boards you may see that the subject of sniping generally only comes up when members ask
as to how it works or if they have been sniped,(this post is the only one to ask whether it's wrong).
That shows that people want to be able to snipe,
