How is it that sellers can sell faulty goods without responsibility.

I purchased a pair of childrens overalls. The straps were sewn on incorrectly to the point where you could not physically put them on a child.  I sent her photo's so she could see for herself.
She would only give a refund if they were posted back, it would cost me more to post them back than they cost originally. So as a buyer I am out of pocket either way.
All I could do was leave negative feedback which she responded to with 'they were in perfect condition."

She is obviously a dishonest seller. I am sure she would just resell them to another unsuspecting person if she did have them back.

But as a buyer it leaves me not wanting to buy from any China seller any more.  I can't trust them.  Paypal haven't protected me from her as they accepted her terms.
I see on her feedback that she has done this before with another buyer and they also couldn't get a refund.
Buyers beware, don't buy from this type of seller. Read all feedback and please don't change a feedback from negative to anything else if you have had problems, it is there to help people like me to make an informed choice.

firstly, if you see on the fb she had problems before, why oh why would you buy from her??

but mainly Paypal do protect you, according to the Terms and Conditions to which you agreed, which is,  for a full refund you must always return to Seller by trackable means.

you know this (or should), so should take tht into consideration when buying anything from o/seas.

sadly, buying items from os will always be expensive if they need returning, why it is always best to keep yr hard earned $$ here in Aussie.

You find an item you want, you check out the seller's feedback, you see it is not too good and you go ahead and buy anyway? You then wonder why your transaction has gone pear shaped and blame everyone except the person who ignored the poor feedback!

Yep, 12 negatives in 12 months is a red flag - put this down to experience.

I basically agree with what people have said, but I also feel sorry for the buyer.

It's okay to say that people 'should know' this and that but in my experience, a lot of friends do not know the ins and outs of all the ebay conditions.

I have heard them say they have seen that they are 'covered by paypal', but I doubt if all of them realise they have to post the item back at their expense, especially overseas. or if they have read that, it isn't at the forefront of their mind when they make a purchase.

I know that after reading these boards, I have become much more aware of things, but I doubt if even 1% of customers frequent these boards.

I think a lot of people (myself included) tend to look at a seller's overall percentage of positive feedback and may not always go into read every individual comment. Okay, maybe that is their lack of diligence but if you see a seller with eg a lot of numbers and a 99.5% positive rating, you tend to think they are probably okay.

I am wary of Chinese sellers though as I have seen what i would call blatant misrepresentation of clothes-eg photos of wedding dresses pinched direct from designer sites- listed with prices like $19.99. Wouldn't trust it, myself. Not in a fit.

Could you try unpicking the stitching that is joining the straps together?   That should allow the overalls to be put on the child.

LOL the seller of the overalls certainly has attempted to have all their bases covered in their terms and conditions in relation to potential post delays these include dense fog, and volcanic eruptions Cat LOL

What you could potetially do is open a dispute straight with paypal if you have used paypal.

Open a dispute with goods not as described.  Ask for refund and that you will send the item back via International Registered Post.

Pays to read things, treble.

This from the OP - She would only give a refund if they were posted back, it would cost me more to post them back than they cost originally. So as a buyer I am out of pocket either way.
