Just curious about other peoples opinion.
I have watched something get relisted over and over again for the last 18 months for the same price.
This item wil never ever sell at the price they want for it.....it even got to the point where I emailed them to give them the low down on what items sell for in that category, with comparison items.
Got a very pleasant email back saying thank you - but there is the item again for the same price, and that price means serious listing fees.
I really feel for this seller - they are wasting money yet they are still on the ebay merry go round....should there be a limit?

A few things about the valuation.
1. It was done by a jeweller, not a registered Valuer, they may not have the same resources.
The Appraisal states it is a Ceylon "type" does not confirm they are actually from Ceylon.
Does not say if they have been treated.
2. It is an Insurance Valuation - which gives it a average 20% premium on retail.
Valuation works like this....
Retail Valuation on a $1000 piece = $1000 in a bricks and mortar shop
Insurance Valuation = $1200
Second hand = $500 or half of retail
Forced sale = $200 - $300
Auction = $150 - $250
The gold weight / cost is negligable in the priing, the value is in the stones, provided they are natural and have not been fiddled with.
A Valuation is only really good for the day it is issued....there are so many variables that can changed the price......what it is really good for is the description.

I have also listed some items many times; one item I kept re-listing and taking $20 - $30 off on some occasions, just wanting it gone. In one point I did not re-list for week or 2, and when I did, I listed at the original price with BIN $100 above the starting price. Guess what, it got snatched at the BIN ๐
It is a free country, it is up to each person to decide if they want to sell fast, or if they want to hold out for good price.

In the end, it's not harming anyone by relisting constantly. The seller is really the only one who may be affected, if they pay listing fees each time for an item that may never sell.
If no one is buying it, that kind of speaks for itself. They must have alot of respect for the items worth to price it so high. It could be that their diamond is the only real one of its kind on eBay, as we do know that eBay is rife with fake jewelery. So that added aspect of it possibly being rare may be why they felt it is worth quite a bit more.

2 things :
1) Re-list as much as you like. Never assume to know the circumstances or the motivation behind the buyers reason for buying. It may never sell, but someday...just someday you just might..and if it does not burn a hole in your pocket then run it;)
2) An experienced Board member lets out a dirty little secret - no shock here I am surprised you mentioned it...not that you partake in such activities....and that is not an attack on your character, I just believe that it is much more common than people realise.

Nobody is perfect. If you read my post (or if you even trust what I wrote) you'll see that I rarely do it.
For half the things I sell, I just set it at postage price. The $3 auctions with free postage on this account are all just covering postage and nothing more. I make nothing and that's fine as it's clearing clutter. For other things where I know the price is generally fairly good, I may place a bid using my other account to moreso stop it selling for peanuts, rather than actually expecting anyone to bid at my shill price. I can't win either way anymore. Start things at $1, get one bid. Start at $30 (it's true value) not get any offers. You can surely understand how that can be frustrating when you've got no one interested in anything unless it's for a dollar or two.
You have lost all credibility. If you are very lucky you won't be reported but don't expect to receive any sympathy if you are.
