I have tried 3 times to buy a iphone s4 with each seller cancelleing the sale immediately at end of auction. How do I bid on a real sale?

A seller can not just cancel a sale unless you agree to it.
Are they sending you an agreement to mutually cancel the purchase?
If yes then just decline the agreement and leave neg feedback to warn others.
Some things are just better purchased from a shop than on line for your own protection.

Sparklz is right. Some things just DO NOT lend themselves to being bought of Ebay. Mobile phones is at the top of the list.

The fake iphone 4S look very similar to the genuine item.
But the box is a slightly different shade of colour.
Some of the apps are not the same.
People who have never owned a iphone 4S probly wouldn't even know the difference until it was to late for them to do anything about it.

There are so many horror stories of people buying phones on eBay. I advise walking into an Optus or Telstra shop, they're all real sellers, you get a warranty, and you can purchase phone insurance if you want.
I would also advise you get an Android phone instead ๐

Walk, drive or bus to any small or large shopping centre or shopping street and find one the many phone dealers there. ๐

I got my phone from here. no probs at all. I messaged him the day a got it freaking out saying the phone was broken. He very calmly told me it wasnt and explained what I was doing wrong:^O
He was a registered business in the same state as me, had the phone 2 days after paying. All my messages were answered the same day. He was great (wasnt an iphone though)
