Huge over-charge on postage.

Has anybody had any dealings with <removed>? He listed a musical instrument I wanted and stated that it was in Marulan, NSW. He tried to charge $40 in postage to Sydney but when I queried it he claimed that the item was actually in Europe and the $40 was the postage from there. When I objected and pointed out his listing said nothing about Europe  I got a volley of abuse and ill-manners.

Has anybody else been taken in by this postage scam?

Crikey they are all the same so do you think that one has a bigger scratch than the other? hence the diff auction prices.

Re: Huge over-charge on postage.

zelly, the only thing I know about a recorder is the agony I had to endure when each of the Crikey Kinder had to learn how to play one of those cheap plastic ones for school.

I just got a bit excited cos there was a red one LOL - if it's red, it must be good hahahaha

Hi digital-ghost.

It was a recorder with F key, item No 121261209010.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I can see why you queried the postage now (I wasn't sure whether it was going to be a large instrument, required special packaging, and/or very expensive with full insurance etc).

It shows the seller revised the listing today before ending it, so can only presume that the information about being in Europe wasn't there when you queried, but I can see they've mentioned it on other listings which have not had any revisions, so I wouldn't necessarily say they intended to be deceitful about the item location, and the postage costs could well be an accurate reflection of the price they will pay and unless someone purchases and find the item arrives from within Australia and/or with significantlly less postage paid, I would be very hard pressed to call it a scam.

As for their response... Well, I would never say abuse or rudeness is ok, but I have to admit I'm wondering if you are the author of the question that has been posted on the listing?

A: IT IS SENT FROM EUROPE,,,ITS IN THE ADD....OVER 1 KILO IS $53AUS PRIORITY...I SOMETIMES LOSE MONEY ON THE POSTAGE COSTS...YES AND I AGREE IT IS DAYLIGHT ROBBERY,,,BUT ITS NOT ME ITS THE POST OFFICES OF THIS WORLD..;;;IF YOU ARE NOT IN A RUSH Y NOT ASK ABOUT SEA MAIL....HOW DOES $22 GRAB U?

Whether that was you or not, I have to say I find the question a little agressive, accusatory and presumptuous, others may not see it that way, but if I wanted to query someone's P&H costs, I would ask politely why it costs that much rather than accuse them of "daylight robbery" straight off the bat.

They could have been a little more elegant in their reply, but whoever posted that question could have been a little more elegant with their enquiry, too, and I can somewhat understand if they had fielded more than one of those kinds of enquiries. Note that "understandable" doesn't always = "acceptable".

All in all, unless it's an item you really wanted and were prepared to look past any offence taken by their replies and (possibly) vice versa, I think the best thing to do is move on to a different seller.

Re: Huge over-charge on postage.

I don't know why buyers worry about pre-advertised postage costs as what matters is the "TOTAL" price paid for the item delivered. High postage charges will relfect what the buying market will pay for item when postage is taken into account. If a pre-advertised postage cost is too high, then don't buy the item, the offer is on the table for the buyer to determine suitability.
