You have quite possibly messed up but if tracking is showing it is on its way, you may eventually get your item.
When you buy on ebay, always check the expected delivery date. If the item isn't there by then or very soon after that, you need to open an ebay claim for an item not received. You need to keep it open, no matter what the seller replies to the claim, until you get your refund. You don't have forever to make a claim.
If an item does not arrive or has something wrong with it when it arrives, you only have 30 days from the arrival date or expected arrival date.
After that, you're not covered by ebay.
If you paid by paypal, you can open a claim with them for up to 180 days.
