I bought 4 x pairs of baby socks (each was one auction) and the postage from VIC to NSW was going to be $10 per pair. They 'discounted' it from $40 to $30. I asked a few questions and was given the okay to send my own pre-paid, pre-addressed 3kg bag (which cost me $11.70). Now they are refusing to put the bag in the post & want me to arrange collection. I"m in Sydney and they are in Melbourne.
I copied the part of the correspondence to ebay customer complaint.
(quote) Please organise some else to pick up this item and post it to you. I am sure you have experience with ebay and you know some people make extra money on postage just like i do. I will accept the plastic satchel but I am sorry I will not waste my time walking / drive to post the item this for nothing. Let me know when you have find the person to help you to post the item Thanks (end quote from seller)
Has anyone got a response from customer support about unfair behaivour/ bad service/ postage pirates?
note: I looked up their house on google maps and there is a post office less than 1km from their home. Love google maps.

First off ebay will do nothing. You can report excessive postage for single items before the listing ends but once you have purchased ebay takes the attitude that you accepted the seller's delivery charge however unreasonable that might be.
Secondly the seller is not obliged to give you any discount for combining items in the same parcel and for the sake of the derisory $10 saving I would have uncombined the items and paid for each one individually with a different delivery name and address on each so that the seller had to pay an extra 90c in Paypal fees and would have had to send in 4 parcels.
I would never have trusted them with an express satchel that they can now use for another buyer and there is not much you can do about that.

Hey sassy and arnl, have a look at the "socks"....they are not quite what you think. I doubt that 4 pairs would fit in a 500g satchel so the OP is right in sending the 3kg one.
Otherwise I agree with what you have said.

Loving all the responses. 🙂
I sent a pre-paid, pre-addressed 3kg bag so it can't be used again. I wanted it to more than cover the postage and besides $11.70 is better than $30. I know the product packaging is right for only 1x 500gm bag so it did need a 3kg bag. I did ask if they could take it out of the packaging ! probably another ruse to overcharge.
As for what eBay will do, I didn't think much would happen (I agree phorum_junkie) but just felt better doing something

Hope the seller has the decency to give Kopes YOUR satchel if the pickup goes ahead.
That seller needs a wake up call IMO.

Wouldn't the Excessive Postage and Handling Policy be applicable here?
Op, if you haven't deleted that message, to me it appears that they have admitted to breaching this policy.
I admit, whilst I would have confirmed a combined postage price before purchase (just in case of a situation like this - as I have learned, get EVERYTHING in writing), there is no way in the world I would have expected a seller to adopt the attitude that the one in this scenario has.
Would it be childish or ill advised to send the seller a link to this thread so that they can see how much damage they have done to their business?
If Kopes is unable to collect, then maybe you do have to pay. They may well send each item separately (though I doubt it) which would make the $30 postage reasonably accurate, and then as someone else has suggested, let your dots, stars and 80 character word limit (x4) factually tell of your experiences throughout this transaction.

...then I am willing to go on a different day / night to collect... any afternoon/evening the seller cares to nominate I'll do it it Kopes can not.
😉

Way to go Putney!
This place really is a pretty awesome one, eh? With members always willing to go out of their way to help other members out.
It certainly appears as if the good guy is going to win this round!
Woo Hoo!

Aw that's so cute Lyndel-safety in numbers if you tag along with Kopes & you could carry 2 pairs of socks each :^O:^O

I looked up the items and yes $10 postage is to much but you did bid on them knowing this. Maybe next time I would message the seller first and ask how much for combined and if they remove the slippers from the box.
I do think this seller was a bit rude and I question if this is a new account they have started most likely from getting bad feedback for terrible customer service.
I really liked the idea one poster had of paying each one by itself and give four addresses. I think to be honest that wouldn't be so bad as don't these slippers/socks retail for over $30 anyway so u are still getting a bargain.

Bargain or not, the seller needs to list their item at the price they are happy to accept, not include profit margins in the postage fees. Pretty sure that eBay looks on that as something like evasion of fees.. There are only so many things that a seller is allowed to include in their Postage and Handling fees, and I am reasonably certain that wages, petrol and other transportation expenses such as wear and tear on the car or soles of your shoes are not included within those allowances. These sorts of costs need to be built into the sale price, just like a B&M store has to do.
I agree, they are not a new seller, just an old ID in a new dress - their response to the question asked of the remaining item listed indicates that they know their way around.
This thread has been good though, because I had sort of come to assume that people would naturally do the "right" thing and try and do the best they could by their customers, so I had become a bit lax lately - major wake up call for me.
